02/6/2018 18:58 | Good post, Chucko1. I've stopped posting dire warnings about Tern being ramped. Say something once ... why say it again? If people on the other thread can't see that Tern is being ramped, won't listen when they are told, simply believe differently, or think that the share is worth holding on its own merits whether or not it is being ramped ... that's their own business. Good luck to them. Tern may turn out to be something of a goldmine. I haven't seen any real evidence for that but, then I haven't really looked into it very deeply. As you say, it seems a very risky bet but that's fine as long as people don't over-extend themselves buying into it. Most likely, nothing very much will come of it just as nothing very much comes of most new business ventures. But, who knows? For now, my main interest in Tern is that it is a nice share to trade in a small-time sort of a way and there is money to be made from that at very modest risk. | ![]() saltraider
02/6/2018 18:52 | Mike Routhorn: re post 97103.. Thanks. Device Authority seems a bit woolly. Still seems to be HTTP and HTTPS.. Am I correct? I got this link: Suggests we're using old tech here to control stuff remotely. Its hardly rocket science. | netcurtains

02/6/2018 18:09 | Hi stead41, thanks for your response earlier (I am just catching up). To give justice to the question that you asked, and to which I really did owe a response, would have taken multiples of time that I could afford. But intelligent people will take something from it, join the loose strands together, or criticise some parts. That’s fine. Where your criticism is certainly fair is when you said that there are rampers and other assorted illdoers on the other board and I must say that I have spent very little time reading those posts (I would indeed risk banning after my first post). This has been the way on such boards for many a year - most folk are looking for reassurance and are not comfortable with a negative view (vast majority of posters are bulls, it seems). I would argue that this majority becomes larger in proportion to the uncertainty surrounding the stock in question. In the case of Tern, realistically there is biblical uncertainty, whereas for something like Centrica whos travails are widely known, the uncertainty is at least a little more narrow in scope. But where I differ is that I would not look to be a vigilante and protect at all costs those who are “taken in” by the possible liars and rampers either here or on the other board. Furthermore, I see some bullish posters as being credible, certainly in the context of those who know what they are buying and the risks they are taking. And risk is what this is all about. That is my central thesis and by risk, I include the risk of company failure, fraud, over or undersizing of position, personal liquidity or otherwise intellectual error. Being taken in by exaggerated claims is simply just one further risk and could to some extent be included within “otherwise intellectual error”. No one, as far as I can tell, has alleged that there is a real boiler room in operation here. The stock is freely tradeable and with acceptable liquidity. People are not buying a bulletin board stock on the say so of some spiv in Bulgaria or Malaga. Furthermore, it’s hardly just stocks like this that are subject to exaggerated claims - on a far larger scale, IPOs of Dotcoms et al in 1998-2000 were overpromoted on an industrial scale. Very bright Wall Streeters could not see through it even though another part of the Street was responsible for the selling! To an extent, biopharmas too. But in the middle of it all you do get the odd diamond - and I suppose this provides the oxygen for irrational optimism. It’s irrational because the expected gain from the winner(s) is less than the capital expended on the failures. But hang on! In fact, smaller company funds outperform over long periods and private equity even more so. How do we reconcile those two previous statements? In the case of PE, those running the funds have a lot of control over their investments and smaller companies are already up and running. The degree of pure “hope” is likely less in these cases than in the smaller company AIM cases of which Tern is a member. And finally, each individual has their own personal risk profile. Being overly critical is therefore utterly pointless. To some, it is like buying a lottery ticket - payout ratio of 50% (so a daft financial decision), but a lot of fun (so long as the risk is right!!). (in fact, do not underestimate the value of the “fun” part - there are arguments that it improves future decision making which in itself has value). | ![]() chucko1
