Y17 profits likley to be pushing upwards from £37m as completions at Azure (Stratosphere )made it into March You can guarantee that the CEO will have left a little good news in the tank for the 31st May as is his want. Just read his last 5 years updates

They are able to forecast into the future as 4 of their schemes have a fixed contarctual payouts with cast iron investors so unless building costs go badly askew they are able to forecast fairly accurately In addition their forward sales programme much of which is below market value which have been sold up to 2.5 years in advance unless there is a massive load of completion failures this all adds to the transparency

Th enumberof newbuilding contractsin London has fallen sharply which hopefully means some downward pressure on construction costs

They have been very fortunate so far to have any failed completions

Thanks gp. Not much of an increase over last year then - maybe less than 10%. So tell the market that even if that wasn't great, it's all going to get a lot better. Fair enough, if the confidence is there, and it seems to be with high percentages of the monies already 'in the bag'.

aiming - In their recent trading update of April 5th TEF said that for the year just ended their PBT would be slightly ahead of market expectations. The market expects PBT to be £33.5m, so add a bit to that number.

So what do people think profit before tax is likely to be for the year recently ended? It's a bit odd, isn't it, to have given firm indications two years ahead but not about the year to 31st March 2017. Although the trading update spoke of record turnover and profits, might the results be a shade disappointing (i.e. not much over last year) but never mind, it's all going to be much better the next two times round?

Pillion - and by extending the logic - surely its because they expect to exceed the published figures with ease?

On track to exceed GBP40 million of profit
before tax in the year to 31 March 2018
and GBP50 million in the year to 31 March
2019

It's most unusual for a PLC to make a profit forecast so far into the future

I think they will probably reduce the short rather than close in one hit.

Pillion - "These short accounts share a trait in common - the majority of them lack any completion"
But it still means that they have taken a position selling those shares does it not? And have made any corresponding gains or losses. In this case I suspect that Old Mutual have lost quite a lot on their bet. Because TEF are now in a firmly established uptrend, I don't see why OM haven't closed that short.

1olddog,
Some investors take put options to protect their investment;

I think they are technical quasi protection moves

These short accounts share a trait in common - the majority of them lack any completion

Why are Old Mutual shorting Telford? Makes no sense at all.

In the medium term looks well bullish to me
Coupled with the good news inflow - all is fine

However.... we don't know for sure what is round the corner; with Brexit and all the scare stories plus the international scene - Syria etc

Holding myself
