Motley Fool Tip: "I’d take advantage of a recent share price slump for the video games developer. Indeed, I’d buy it with one eye on results which are due to come out (on Tuesday, 14 September). I think this could remind the market of its brilliant investment potential as the video games market goes from strength to strength. Recent data shows the gaming industry is now worth more than the movie and music industries combined.

Team17’s broad selection of popular games helped revenues surge 34% in 2020 and 43% the year before that..."

The new Eastern Front trailer for Hell Let Loose looks incredible. The game has developed strongly and slowly in Early Access and has now launched successfully in Steam (85% Positive from 29,000 reviews) and on PC.
Next gen console launch scheduled for Q4 this year. The game should be huge!

Still going cheap then.

Good to see that they are expanding the footprint.
Hopefully the younger users will remain sicky and move onto more advanced products in the future.
Also, there is no better word of mouth than children talking to each other about their latest new 'toy'. Peer pressure is invaluable and costs nothing to market.

The game developer anticipates ongoing growth for the education app market, noting Technavio's prediction that the sector will grow by more than USD46 billion from 2020 to 2024, with a compound annual growth rate of 26%.

In the short term, the company said it expects StoryToys to generate immediate earnings and returns well above the cost of capital, with cash generation approaching the level of Team17, despite its smaller size.

I hold them too. GSK has been a disappointment I admit. But there is value there and new activist investors are going to dig it out.

(TM17 holders - sorry for the off-topic)

Tell that to GSK 😊

Anyway the correct generalisation from the particular is the world needs more purple haired female CEOs.

Agree believe it's a fantastic bolt on to the larger company, nice to see them putting that cash pile to good use buying a company that's immediately earnings enhancing.

I instinctively like the current purchase (out of cash 😊) and move into educational games. I wonder how big that market is and the growth rate? Must dig.
Feels like an expansion of footprint rather than more of the same.

The article put me off FDEV forever, or even longer.

Very good article Apad - thanks for posting. Many of the thoughts in it are very much like my own - and I know that you're also a big fan of the purple-haired one :-). I've written recently about how Frontier Foundry is just really getting going so is unproven so far. Debbie is right about the risk of AAA games and the disastrous launch of FDEV's Elite Dangerous:Odyssey has definitely shown that to be true. FDEV were one of my top 3 portfolio holdings just a few weeks ago but I decided to sell up after seeing positive Steam reviews crash to approx 30%. I sold between 2800p and 2850p and they've dropped below 2300p already. To be honest I have also cut back a little on TM17, because gaming shares are having a quieter period at the moment and I probably had too high a percentage in them, but I will continue to hold a good amount indefinitely as Team17 regularly deliver great games on time rather than depend on over-ambitious blockbusters.

I agree with almost everything there.
I bought in a small amount, just in case they announce anything spectacular and take off. I’ve been hoping for the price to drip down closer to 600p before picking up more.

However, I understand that it’s new to stock market, so there are risks.

Good interview with Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick who always comes across as down to earth despite her enormous success. I know she's an inspiration to a lot of people at Team17 and beyond in the gaming world.

I saw the RMA announcement and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. I've not heard of the platform before and the 5 games offered - Yoku’s Island Express, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Genesis Alpha One Deluxe Edition, My Time at Portia, and Raging Justice - are 2 to 3 years old and I'd not heard of the last one.

I guess they are showing willing with a newish platform and seeing how it goes.
