21/5/2011 15:04 | TW. shortly becomes a tightly focused, largely deleveraged, much more profitable unit. It will be re-rated accordingly, shame this is taking so long but I guess some big players would prefer to see the proof before increasing their positions. | sir rational
21/5/2011 13:50 | The housebuilders have hit the headlines recently following the positive results from the sector in the UK last week and the contrasting US data this week. Taylor Wimpey (LON:TW), Britain's second biggest house builder by value, said sales and prices continued to reassure, echoing comments from peers. Pent-up demand for new housing has been subdued by the scarcity of affordable mortgages. Even so, the group's order book at the end of April has risen from 4,684 homes at the end of last year to 5,681. Taylor Wimpey said it remains on track to hit its target of a double-digit operating margin in the UK next year and it has experienced further improvement in the margin on sales in its order book, due to greater emphasis on higher margin family homes rather than apartments. In March, the group announced the sale of its North American and Canadian business to a group of private equity firms for $955 million £600 million, which subject to regulatory approval should be completed by the end of June. | smurfy2001
