'A little birdie tells me my 1.70 should be here very soon'

Ha!
Shame that same little birdie didn't give you the heads up to sell at £2.40 earlier in the year....

"Who would have thought it?"

As expected.

The markets slide (HBs/banks/oils fall) over the past 6 months, due to several major uncertainties (US Election, Covid, Brexit, economy, gov support) coming together in Q4(Oct-Dec)..

Major uncertain events become certain events(US Election, vaccine) and the ftse and share price moves up. Markets like clarity.

HBs are affected both ways by major events and large stockmarket moves. Nothing to do with relative differences between PSN-TW, as you keep suggesting.

Believe it or not but Banks, telecoms, RDSB etc didn't rise sharply on the back of TW's update...lol

Excellent trading opportunities.

It's nice to have an investment decision proven right so conclusively BY EVENTS.

The real test for housing market and specifically HBs is yet to be play out.

Help to buy for 2nd homes ending.
Stamp Duty hol ending.
Furlough ending.
Investors pulling out of housing market.
Ongoing CMA investigation into leasehold scandal.
Brexit.

Nice, dirty, cheeky move by TW. to get their statement out ahead of PSN yesterday - took the benefit, for once:

And so it starts to evolve/revert:

PSN update backs up the view that a high % of buyers are First Time Buyers - as expected. FTBs would use Help to Buy and take advantage of the Stamp Duty hol.

"The Group's affordable price points provide 'homes for all' and access to the housing market for customers wanting to move into their first home. Our private average selling price of GBP246,208 at 30 June 2020 (2019: GBP242,912) is c. 19% (2) below the UK national average and approximately 50% of our private home completions for the ten months to 31 October 2020 have been to first time buyers."

As expected, unemployment rising. Still early days to see impact of covid on economy.

UK unemployment rate continues to surge

"But why would you?" Exactly.

imastu, I was lucky with TW, I'd been buying the day before and when the news hit I had 30 odd orders exchanged in two hours. I love this Commission Free trading :))

PS My one hiccup is that I sold off 50% of my Lloyds holding at 30p, now sitting on the cash and almost hoping for a decent drop.

gbh2 - done the same, but repurchased 3 out of 4 tranches that were sold for 146+ yesterday. Also sold some in the high 130s, pre the vaccine news. Such is life. Many many opportunities elsewhere, and it is difficult to think through clearly the best approach, in real time. Not to mention platform issues...

There is of course a large gap below - you never know...

:-)

(I don't know who sikh is addressing, indeed I don't know why he is still here - the other berks have disappeared; you can read the odd post without removing the filter, by clicking the little flag next to their names. But why would you?)

PS - anyone seen COST? - I have my own thread (!) 😎, with the business case etc all on there. Up 50% from the lows, but still (imho) stupidly cheap...

Martyn/gbh,

Where did you see that a final dividend will paid before end of 2020?

According to their TU, they will recommence divi in 2021.

"As previously stated, we expect to recommence ordinary dividend payments in 2021, starting with the payment of the 2020 final dividend. We will review the special dividend in 2021 for payment in 2022."

Good work ethic Jugears and I know what you mean about the satisfaction of doing your best and achieving a goal, it's why I had several attempts at walking away, in the end I became an Advisor which meant when I finally walked away it was up to someone else to succeed or fail.

Wish you a good day :))

"it will be interesting to see how much we get as a final dividend"

The dividend is 'expected', could be, maybe declared when they announce fy results. It's was already known about some months ago. Remember 'could' 'expect', those words you love to highlight when there's challenges... So you may get 0, Zero, zilch ;-)

The special dividend will be 'reviewed' 'possibly', 'maybe', 'could be', in A YEAR or so... ;-)

It will depend on how they are trading when they report fy results in a few months time. It's also likely to depend on how the situation with covid, Help to Buy, Stamp Duty hol, unemployment etc is when they report the fy results.
