i doubt you can use halfords as a benchmark. especially seeing that tnd have been steadily decreasing in turnover for bikes. also current $ appreciation is going to kill margins. yes you can say that some of mv is fob in $ so it protects it but not nearly enough. i remain negative

There are no forecasts that I am aware of so 2x H1 would be the best guess.

The statement from Halfords on cycles today looked very positive.

Graham1TY....Blimey you will be getting JS worried now. He will be having to make those results as bad as possible just so that you do not throw an awkward question at him later at the AGM ...lol

In any event we have no forecasts or trading update and therefore little to suggest that trading is good, bad or the same as last year. I would still like to see another presentation for investors so maybe with the slightly earlier final results would be good timing for that.

I am quietly confident that 2012 will be a good year for Tandem... olympic year cycling golds hopefully and all that ! This story looks very promising...

Plus interesting info and stats for last recorded year here....

It added that bicycle retail in the UK had seen a sales rise of 28 per cent year-on-year in 2010, with sales of 3.7 million bikes generating £1.62 billion

When I was advising such companies, years ago, always said better, in spirit, if close period runs from period end to the results. For most companies that is about 2 months, hence the current "rule". Some companies, for little good reason, take 4 months and therefore the technical close period starts way after the year end.....

Does depend on how good management systems are as to when the Directors have a pretty good idea of whether they are going to please or disappoint.

IMHO, any dealings after the period end fail the "smell test". It should be remembered the insider dealing legislation overrides any strict adherence to the close period rules.......obviously not that this is in any way the case here. However, if as we hope the results do come out good, it is an obvious question as to when the Board had an inkling of that,

But, noone asked my opinion

The year end has changed to December but I doubt the results will be out before April (May last year) and the closed period is generally two months before the results are released. Finance Directors buying or selling are always the best leading indicators IMO.

Glad to see Director buying.........but after the year end ? Although, you could argue that results can only be dull.........or he would later be accused of inside knowledge..........so bullish as he knows the figures........or bearish as he knows that the price will not, later, move.

A post-year end update would do the trick.

Hope all well

Didn't see it but it's not surprising, Graham1TY.
It's hard to open a newspaper or magazine these days without seeing something about the boom in cycling and anything cycle related - with lots more expected in the future.

If Tandem is in a 'niche' area of the market as has been said here before, it needs to get out of it and get into the mainstream - fast.

10. Wiggle
Turnover: £86.8m (+56%) Pre-tax profits: £10.5m (+42%)
Sector: Retail Based: Portsmouth
In the late 1990s, during the birth of online retail, Harvey Jones and Mitch Dall quickly recognised the opportunity that the internet presented as a sales channel for cycle accessories, and co-founded Wiggle.co.uk in 1999. Wiggle acquired a loyal following and within five years had a turnover of £11 million. In the summer of 2008, Wiggle started to push overseas sales, translating the website into different languages and handling other currencies. Within six months, international sales had increased tenfold. Since then, sales have risen notably, with the company reporting a massive increase in turnover from £33.15 million in 2009 to £86.79 million in the year ended 31 January 2011. Profits have also soared from £4.51 million to £10.53 million in the same period.

Are you sure the company will divulge detailed commercially sensitive information ? They are not normally so communicative. I was assuming you had obtained the info from a document that is publicly available. Did you get the information from Jim Shears ?

neverforget....That is very interesting but where does it show that cap & collar hedge in the accounts ? Are you sure your assertion of facts are verifiable by the rest of us ? If not in print anywhere who told you this information ?

I thought the results read well considering the current economic climate and balanced against the horrendous results from Argos who of course are one of Tandems customers. The management deserve credit for steering the ship well. I do think they could have increased the dividend to say 1.5p interim and then 3p final to give 4.5p for the year and a yield at around 5% on current price which may then be attractive for income investors. That is important if Tandem is not seen as a growth stock and gives us long termers the real benefit of being loyal shareholders.

There was an earlier comment about the result being at the lower end of market expectations !! Where are there any market forecasts ? I have not seen any and I do not think any analysts are covering Tandem.

first and foremost the company has about 1/3rd of revenue in dollars and opeartes a cap and collar hedge. currently this is fixed until the end of december but then reverts. current offers are for 1.56 cap to 1.50 collar. current are for a cap of around 1.62. This means that raw materials which account for around £7m of £11m. do the sum and it shows that last year you had an exchange of 1.53 last year giving you a $0.09 advantage which equates to around 6% which is around £420/. All the increase is currency relatd. what will you do when this favorable currency changes this year?
