Received my dividend cheque today, 80 pence. Cost them 46p to post it and probably 60p in bank charges to issue it. I may stick it on the wall next to my genuine one hundred trillion dollar bank of Zimbabwe bank note just to remind me what happens when total w@nkers are entrusted with your hard earned cash.

I attended the AGM today at 11am - usual micro cap format of dispensing formal business quickly, followed by informal Q&A with all 5 directors participating though the chairman (the former FD) said most and current FD least with CEO and 2 NEDs (Andy Beswick and Simon Morris) batting 2,3,4 (so to speak). The message from the Board was that the progress on delivering the commercial strategy communicated last September was broadly on target. But the market places in which the company operates vary: -- as the AGM statement above says the leisure and toys national accounts -e.g. Argos- are softening whereas the market for bicycles - especially parts and accessories- is relatively a better one. Personally I came away feeling agnostic to slightly believing in this broad message. The various "interfaces" between the company and stock market/investors of interest to shareholders were also covered: e.g. such issues as the current share price of about £1 vs last share back (from Andrew Burgess) at £1.40 (see February RNSs), current mkt cap of only about £5m (too low to be of interest to most fund managers/institutions ) vs net assets of £8.6m (though the differences in pension fund liability valuation methodology impact materially on this number), no guidance given to market in a (house) broker's note, date of next investor presentation etc. Personally I came away feeling mostly atheistic in this area, including the leadership given to the board by Chairman. PS By way of comparison, after I'd posted above I saw a post about another company in which I am a shareholder (with a very much bigger holding in value than in TND) which also issued a RNS today. That company is Immunodiagnostic Systems (IDH) -- it's got many attractive features most of which TND lacks: -- market, margins and board/investor interfaces to name just three.

Usual 'glass half empty' update: AGM Statement Chairman, Mervyn Keene, will make the following statement at today's AGM: "Revenue for the 21 weeks to 24 June 2011 was 5% behind the comparative period last year. Sales of bicycles and accessories increased by 5% following the initiatives that we identified during last year's strategic review. The initial introduction of a Claud Butler branded parts and accessories range, new national retailer listings and a positive response to the launch of the 2011 year cycle models have helped grow turnover in difficult trading conditions. Revenue from our sports, leisure and toys business was 21% behind the same period last year. Many of our high profile national accounts continue to report higher stock holdings and weak consumer demand, which affects our sales. Despite these factors, we have signed a number of exciting new licences for 2012 and beyond and we expect to bring some of these to market later this year. We believe that we are well placed to take advantage when consumer confidence returns. Reductions in shipping costs, coupled with a comparatively weaker US dollar have helped maintain profitability. Overheads remain under tight control. Notwithstanding the increased levels of stock currently held and the impact this has on working capital and cash, the Group continues to strengthen the balance sheet. In accordance with our announcement on 3 May 2011, a dividend of 2 pence per ordinary share will be paid on 1 July 2011 to shareholders on the register on 3 June 2011."

Bikebiz today Since then Halfords has posted a rise in sales, while IBDs are having a rollercoaster of a time, according to ActSmart stats. Significant firms like Shimano, Dorel and Accell are performing well this year and the word on the street in the UK is that while bike sales are very tough, P&A sales are positively booming. And the consistent message we hear is that workshop business is surging like never before. With factors like those eye watering petrol prices encouraging folk onto bikes, plus the Olympics and plenty more reasons to be positive, the bike market has much going for it, even at a time like this. But invulnerable to the credit crunch? Only time will tell.

Noone seen the announcement ? Another 2% bought in at 111p. If it was good value at 140p, it must be better value at 111p. Suprised they needed to pay 111p though ? There seems to be enought stock ( well certainly 25,000 or so) at 105p. Hope this takes away any overhang.

From a recent interview with Olympic Cyclist Chris Hoy. "Hoy is taking part in The Sky Ride, a mass participation event he hopes will become to cycling what the London Marathon is to running. The aim is to get a million new people on bikes by 2013. We are trying to get a bigger shift of culture here like there is on the continent where cycling is part of peoples lives." In view of this excellent initiative, I wonder what the Tandem B.O.D are doing to take advantage of this magnificent opportunity ? On past and present evidence - probably not a lot.

Guys i agree 100% Holding 2.98% of these and keen to increase my stake i have had a long discussion today with the company and its brokers. We are pushing for some coverage (maybe brokerlink) which will give us some forecasts. I am also lining up a shareholder meeting (post summer) when we can discuss the SR and have a presentation. Again questions can be asked. I have made it clear that the directors have a responsability to shareholders and this includes Getting a return on our investment with an increasing share price A progressive dividend policy. To pay 3p and have it covered 6x looks a bit mean. Anyway i will revert as soon as i can. I expect EPS 23/25p for current year rising to 30p in 2012. The shares should be around 200p. best Tiger

We also need to see some reasonably well put together and reasoned forecasts in the market so that investors looking for the first time can get an understanding of the direction the company is heading. Anyone reading the final results for 2010 is bound to look to see what forecasts are in the market for this year and hopefully next !

On a proforma basis, allowing for the buyback eps are c23p. So, pretty much 4x. A shareholder meeting would be useful, but suspct we will have to wait for the AGM. I wish that TND had some links with the press, to get a positive ( not ramping) story in the IC, GCI, LCF, anywhere, just pointing out the consistent profits etc etc. Widening the base of larger and serious long term investors. No ramping like last year, just one, quite big, patient buyer.

grahamty....I agree totally. This is a company where shareholders have complained and the communication has vastly improved. The future looks reasonably bright so a p/e rating of just five considering the strength of the balance sheet does look very mean. I think another shareholder presentation might help.

Let us not be too negative !! They have beaten last year, despite horrible conditions out there. Stock levels are up, but that is explained ( if stock levels had stayed at c£5m, cash would have been over £5m, more than the market cap). Dividend increase cautious, but OK. Tandem has been consistently profitable and cash generative throughout the worst recession in living memory. Do not knock the performance. What we need now is a period of stability and strengthening of the share register by long term holders without the artificial market of the last year. Tandem is worth far more than 100p. Engagament with shareholders last year was a mixed experience for the Board, but has to be encouraged. Tandem will be fine !!

Still blaming outside influences on a static performance. When will they put in a performance comensurate with their remuneration. Absolutely useless.

Results out today. The Board is back to it's old habits of very little disclosure. Time for another shareholder to collect a big stake and then get the company to buy it back. At least they have cash on the balance sheet, but there's a huge increase in working capital only partially explained and some financial liabilities which seem to be invoice discounting - debt by any other name. A half decent yield is the sop to shareholders.

Thanks for posting the TND chart here and on the Havelock board, andonis. You don't make any comment, so I'm not sure of your purpose. However, the chart does serve the very good purpose of underlining the positive and profitable effect that AB's involvement had on the TND share price - it rose from around 65p in March last year, when he first started buying, to an intraday high of 177p at the beginning of this year, a few weeks before he sold. That was an increase of about 170%. As for Havelock, it's already up around 40% since he started buying in February, at Thursday's 14.50p close. Just goes to show the excellent potential. There's much riding on Havelock's hoped-for business recovery, of course.

greengiant made some comments about TND in his post 2154 on the HVE BB yesterday afternoon - probably the first such comments since he exited on 14 February, I believe. That post also confirms his intention to continue to add to his stake in HVE. Very interesting situation developing there.

For general information, greengiant has begun buying into Havelock Europa (HVE). He is posting on that board. Two shareholding RNSs so far - 4.15% as of 22 Feb., followed by another RNS last week notifying an increase to 5.04%. Looks like he intends to shake things up with HVE, as he did here. HVE's final results for 2010 are due literally any day; last year 29 April. HVE's share price has already begun to move up a little, after a steep decline from the mid-1990s. But his buying is still "under the radar", up to now. As always, please DYOR - it's very much a recovery situation under new leadership.
