02/5/2019 18:58 | I own both SLA and LLOY. I got the LLOY as a result from my Halifax shares being "stolen". Funny really, I got my SLA shares when they FINALLY de-mutualised. Had they done so the first time it was mooted I was told I'd be in for about £60k's worth of shares given the number of With Profit policies I had active at the time. So, a transfer between LLOY and SLA with middle-men taking their (massive) commissions seems OK as a third shafting will be less painful. Re. the "lacklustre" response retsius maybe the market expects and money heading SLA's way to be wasted like so much previously on buy-backs. Boy, I'm getting ever more cynical. | mcunliffe1
02/5/2019 17:44 | Together with the 159m from the Indian sale and say 250m from Lloyds a pretty good day of news for the co. Lacklustre response from market seems churlish. Hoping for suitable advance tomorrow once the news is fully digested! | retsius
02/5/2019 17:37 | Its ironic - I own both LLOY and SLA so this is a transfer between my two companies, but no doubt with some lawyers taking their cut. Am sure I'm not the only one. | dr biotech
02/5/2019 17:23 | I have re -read the statement and can't find £400m 339m have been set aside for banking volatility and the SLA/Widows case. This could be therefore a lot less than 339m but will still be a substantial sum! All good news. R. | retsius
02/5/2019 17:14 | Will there be a Special Dividend as a result ? | chinese investor
02/5/2019 17:10 | I realise now that my re- reading your post you have answered my question! Doh. | retsius
02/5/2019 17:08 | Chinese investor Where did you read that? Was it released after market close or during working day? I wondered if it was the public offering in India but that news is excellent for SLA holders.... must be up tomorrow after the news! | retsius
02/5/2019 16:55 | Provision by LLOY for Scottish Widows mentioned in Today's Statement. Around £400 million ! | chinese investor
02/5/2019 12:40 | Great RNS ! | chinese investor
02/5/2019 12:30 | I stick by this ! Chinese Investor (SLA) 05 Apr 2019 - 10:48:45 Looking at the long time graph, and taking in account the diminished business, the "natural" price would be around 300p. | chinese investor
26/4/2019 14:49 | If you own several percent of a company you can be an effective activist shareholder. Happily I own nothing like several percent of SLA and am not going to waste time sending grumpy emails to people who don't give a toss. | edmundshaw
25/4/2019 18:26 | One can be an activist shareholder too. Don't have to accept every decision - actually need to be a shareholder to have any say. Too many Boards make too many decisions because they know that with shareholders once removed through investment funds etc. they are unlikely to be challenged. What Boards need is more challenge from shareholders not sell up or shut up. | fenners66
24/4/2019 22:25 | you are saying management made big mistakes..yes correct | meijiman
24/4/2019 17:18 | That model works well for Phoenix, who effectively give themselves long term reserves of dividends. But then they also have freed-up reserves every year from their closed life business - predictable cash flow. What would SLA do with £750m of spare cash and no businesses they want to buy?? I think the buybacks are OK at sub 280p prices - that effectively supports a higher dividend forever and is good value. Anything much above that is more doubtful; but that is stated management policy and so that is part of what we are buying into by holding SLA shares, and criticizing the policy is a bit pointless unless you can actually change it. Just hold or sell. | edmundshaw
24/4/2019 07:21 | Give me a higher base and continuing dividend instead of a buyback / special divi. A special divi comes and goes - yes its cash in shareholders pockets - rather than non-shareholders just selling out, but its transient - you still get some carpetbagging the shares. However a longer term higher divi - will give remainer shareholders higher regular income and then as a result of say the dividend valuation model - will give a higher share price as well. Win /win. Those that want to stay in for income and those that want to sell a parcel of shares for gains. | fenners66
23/4/2019 21:13 | Point taken! | retsius
23/4/2019 20:01 | True. But dividends in ISAs are tax free. And thinking buybacks = higher share price is nonsense, as SLA buybacks way higher than current share price show. Give me a special dividend ahead of buybacks every time. With dividends we actually get the money unlike when supposedly rewarded with buybacks. Then the “reward” too often is a lower share price! | kenmitch
23/4/2019 19:05 | Yes but this year any dividend over £2k will be taxed according to ones income. That can be quite punitive if you are a 40% tax payer. | retsius
23/4/2019 19:01 | Money in the pocket is not ephemeral like a share price. Straight into the pocket EVERY time. | eeza
23/4/2019 18:42 | but the executive would not get bigger bonus's would they,we are fed the crumbs and they get a nice bonus. | lippy4
23/4/2019 17:03 | I question the buyback helps the share price rise. It will make any dividend greater per (remaining) share - that I fully accept. I would never question the fact I WOULD BE BETTER OFF had they paid me my share of the money spent on the buy-back - a "special dividend". | mcunliffe1
23/4/2019 14:24 | Let’s not tempt fate! The Buy Back of shares is a strong reason we have had a steady rise of the share price The good news it is set to continue until July, or before if the £175m is used up first. | retsius
23/4/2019 12:32 | Could today be the 8th day of gains ? | chinese investor |
