don't like posting negative thoughts whil'st holding , but it stunk of a retrace to 165p ,but screams of a climb back to 180p, sometime in the near future....imho

trouble with SGI, is its tightly held and sudden movements and large spreads , precludes matters...

no worries :-)
One other thing tho - their freehold properties are valued in the 2005 accounts at £119,000 !!! Some more hidden value there I think.

I agree with that Cambium. ALMA you say its been a wonderful share in 2006, well its been that for rather longer than that and will continue to deliver. I have held since Jan 2004 and started buying at 48p - its done me proud and I see no reason for that not to continue. Buy them and tuck them away and bank the divis twice a year - you wont regret it.

So far as properties are concerned I believe its the Ringwood one that they own and the Strand shop is rented - but part of it is sub-let so they still do ok.

I have been in these for over two years AMLA and seen the share price double and in that time they also paid a special dividend too.

We can hardly call the share price sluggish, patience is a virtue and with shares like SGI the only way is to leave them be. I believe that these are truely undervalued even if only on a goodwill basis.

Answer me this - What other internationally renown and respected company is its market leader and has a market cap of under 45 million. Slater would be proud of these!

Also they own there own premises on the Strand (no less) and have an appreciating catalogue of stamps and we haven't even starting talking about the business yet.

I am waffling and have got shed loads of things to get on with, see you in a couple of years when the share price is £3.50 or so. Chill

Happy investing.

This has been a wonderful share during 2006.The only thing worrying about holding it is how slow the share price movements can be and how difficult it is to know what this company is really worth.
What is relevant is that SGI seems to be well respected and even when the share price becomes volatile, the losses are not unbearable. As during the recent Spanish Scandal.
What has become of their stamp fund?
This is a BB with very few new members and therefore, information is not regularly updated and the share price remains sluggish.
I am surprised that this company is'nt on the map for more peeps. We all know that the mms can shift up the price quite smartly on few trades in SGI.This could be a good short term trading share rather than the long drawn out, waiting share that we have all come to know.
I believe in the company and feel that as they are in such a niche market they should be part of my portfolio of English shares.
I am not ramping.DYOR and LOL

I thought there would have been a trading statement issued by now but am delighted that the shares are showing continued strength. This reminds me of a coiled spring just waiting to be released.

I presume there will be a trading statement issued before the new Year, like last year, which probably means tomorrow. If this statement reveals continued strong trading, as is expected and widely reported, then I expect the shares to climb further. Today could be the last chance to get in around the 170p mark.

Not quite sure why the share price has suddenly developed this level of strength but I'm certainly not going to complain.

No need to even mention the Madonna pics with performance like this. I'll save any further comments on the subject until we have a dip in the sp!

A close above 170 today would be very healthy, to say the least.
