27/4/2022 11:42 | For each unit of electricity generated, Drax burning wood emits more co2 than when it burnt coal. That's before considering the extremely energy intensive processes of turning trees into dry wood pellets, and then shipping them 4000 miles to Drax. (Compared to no processing for coal, and shipping it half a mile). And drax was the cleanest coal station on the planet. | pierre oreilly
27/4/2022 11:30 | Not a Drax investor nor am I exclusively a green energy obsessive, but their announcement today has me v irritated. Claiming that the import of wood pellet biomass from the US etc is 99% sustainable. And celebrating that it has CCS at the engineering design stage and is fully committed to making a financial investment decision in 2024 "with the right government support". After coal I suspect Drax power station is one of the most intense emitters of atmospheric CO2 in the UK, importing wood chip from the US at a rate which is not at all sustainable and which would take 30-50 years to regrow so hardly carbon-neutral, only to burn it here without emmissions capture, and .... aaaaaagh! To offset its damage Drax would have to plant new forest in the UK at the rate of ... starting 30 years ago ... aaaaagh! Greenwashing what is a dirty business no better than running a log burner. Much happier with SSE and those companies genuinely working towards not emitting greenhouse gas. | marktime1231
27/4/2022 09:36 | SSE PLC said Wednesday that it has formed a partnership with the renewable company of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. to participate in tenders for offshore wind projects in the Netherlands. U.K. energy group SSE said the 50:50 partnership will participate in the Hollandse Kust (west) tenders, which are offering 1.4 gigawatts of power generation capacity. Both companies view the Netherlands as a leading market for offshore wind development, supported by ambitious targets and a strong focus on innovation, SSE said. Brookfield is a Canadian asset manager with around $690 billion of assets under management. Brookfield Renewable is its listed renewable power company. 26/4/2022 16:16 | Adding to: Skinny - 'Another ATH @1,866.' Plus, another closing price record @ 1,834 [LSE]. | jrphoenixw2
26/4/2022 08:51 | I nearly sold out when the dividend was rebased but now I'm glad I didn't as the yield is pretty good when you look at SSE as a low carbon renewables growth company. Also I now see SSE as having strong defensive qualities in a volatile market. 💨🔌 | bountyhunter
26/4/2022 07:50 | Yeah this one has had a fantastic run despite the wider market issues. I have had it on my radar for 6 weeks or so now waiting for 1650 / 1680 to enter but it keeps going up and up!! Well done to all that hold 👍🏻 | tuftymatt
26/4/2022 07:35 | SSE 2030 GOALS "As the UK’s national clean energy champion, we will deliver a fivefold increase in our renewable output and cut carbon intensity by 80% by 2030 as we accelerate our net zero action plan." | bountyhunter
26/4/2022 07:32 | In the right sector at the right time, could go a lot higher as we progressively move towards a new green low carbon world :) | bountyhunter
26/4/2022 07:16 | Another ATH @1,866. | skinny
25/4/2022 14:19 | Defensive qualities kicking in, it seems that you can't go far wrong with SSE whichever way the wider market goes. | bountyhunter
23/4/2022 11:19 | Another closing high yesterday @ 1828p. I/d high of 1848.20p from Wednesday remains the record to date. ... from a technical perspective such 'new markers' are significant to me... :) | jrphoenixw2
22/4/2022 13:29 | Agreed. This is quickly becoming a different beast to the fairly predicable company of past years. Punters need to adjust their mindset accordingly | the deacon
22/4/2022 11:19 | Heading for another all time high :) Glad I held on to these after the Divi rebase now. | bountyhunter
22/4/2022 10:04 | I think I have stumbled on a meeting of Pedants Anonymous.... Either way it is good to see the recent strength. Over the years I have usually traded out some SSE on these peaks , but the realignment of the company makes me reluctant to sell any. I also wonder whether the investment abroad reduces the chances of a future Labour government being able to renationalise this, harder to justify why the UK taxpayer should have the right to takeover assets abroad? | wad collector
21/4/2022 10:18 | 12:50:36 actually :-) 5874 1848.197 135 O 1846.5 1847.5 12:50:36 | skinny
21/4/2022 10:16 | ... plus an intra-day record at c12.50pm yesterday, @1848.20p [as best as I can judge from Yahoo/Finance charts!]. | jrphoenixw2
20/4/2022 19:17 | Comfortably a new closing high @1826.5p | bountyhunter
20/4/2022 11:57 | 20/04/2022 11:33am SSE Gains After Move Into Mainland-European Renewables SSE is among the biggest FTSE 100 risers, up 2.6% after the Scottish power generator said it's buying a portfolio of renewable-energy projects in Spain, France, Italy and Greece from Spain-based engineering group Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for 580 million euros ($625.7 million). SSE has been clear about its ambitions to expand outside the U.K. & Ireland and the acquisition marks a significant entry into continental renewables, RBC Capital Markets says. The implied price appears reasonable as SSE looks to expand internationally and achieve its carbon emission-reduction targets and GBP12.5 billion of capital spending by 2026, RBC analyst John Musk says in a note. | bountyhunter
20/4/2022 09:13 | That outlook depends on future energy prices and on how the ongoing low carbon green energy climate change global agenda progresses. Imho wind energy is here to stay especially the more easily serviceable onshore type as acquired by SSE today. The market appears to be still processing today's news. | bountyhunter
20/4/2022 08:13 | I bought in 04 as a takeover prospect with a decent yield. I never foresaw the renewable bonus! | bountyhunter
20/4/2022 07:54 | When I bought these 14 or so years ago, it was for income ,not capital gain - perhaps that may be about to change! | skinny
20/4/2022 07:50 | Yes SSE couldn't have planned things better but certainly by a degree of luck as well as judgement given the current unfortunate state of affairs regarding energy provision globally. Re takeover prospects yes maybe too soon and we could see a demerger of the renewables business first. | bountyhunter
20/4/2022 07:47 | Absolutely agree. I bet SSE can hardly believe their luck with the turmoil in energy markets! Renewables investment is exactly why I bought SSE. I am not sure they are a bid target as such but I can see a demerger of the renewables business within the next 5 years. The stock would fly if they did that. Another Orsted. | frederickbloggs |
