We have a new chairman who has been on board for a while now. I would expect to see some share purchases (RNS) unless he is privy to inside information. Either scenario should move share price upwards. Large share purchases might indicate imminent Chairman purchase RNS.

Interesting article, Piedro.

And there is a connection with Nikola Tesla.

Inventing remote controlled boats was one of Tesla's (unfulfilled) projects at the end of the 19th century. He argued they would bring world peace because of their potential to knock out warships - and at that time no warships = no wars.

I don't know what SRTs "play" on VDES is or will be (if indeed they need one) However, what I do know is that the development of standards that affect AIS will not be a surprise to SRT. They have staff members who sit on the IALA, IMO, ITU and IEC Standards Committees for AIS. I'm confident they are well aware of any industry wide developments and are acting accordingly. If there is an AIS pie, we have a finger in it.

Has anyone heard management discuss anything about VDES - a new high speed marine data system that incorporates AIS? Slated to start being deployed over the next couple of years. I wonder what SRT's play might be seeing as the standards appear well advanced.

All the more reason to avoid tendentious interpretations, then !

Have we got a big buyer here disguising his trades as rollovers! To many double large trades over the last few days for this just to be rollovers unless someone else knows different?

Just to clarify my views here, I believe JRC is the customer referred to in yesterday's RNS. That is why I re-posted DJ Trading's link, on reflection I should have just stated my view and not 'muddied the waters'.
Hope that makes my position on it clear

Hi DJ Trading,

You do have a way with words !

....the fact that SRT are prepared to write off a £2.2m debt ...they are required to do so under accounting conventions, your use of 'prepared' = 'apparent willingness' is an unwarranted inference.

BTW, the links you offer to the JRC articles relate to coastal stations and distress communications systems, not obviously related to MDA.

Yump - I'm not trying to confuse just trying to get people thinking and dtor on Indonesia
There are clearly issues and the fact that SRT are prepared to write off a £2.2m debt is a clue that this isn't just a slight delay - I also have concerns about the main Contractor and lack of news on their website for over 12 months.

So having found that JRC have expanded their presence in Indonesia recently I though some might be interested. They have been active in Indonesian Coastal surveillance for over 30 years. Why are they suddenly expanding their presence if the $400m? coastal surveillance contract ($100m to SRT) has gone to another party? Are they doing other work (safey/disaster prevention) or perhaps subcontracting like SRT? who knows, just thought it was worth mentioning as I stumbled across it.

Not aimed at you - just general.

Some folk are posting stuff that is any sort of order from Indonesia for any sort of company, about any sort of product, without attempting to put in context.

2 separate debates I think - the existing customer debate is re the recent SRT contract.

The JRC link nothing to do with that.
Indonesia are an existing customer of JRC with legacy systems in place:

I'm confused. Where does it appear that JRC are an existing customer?

I'm not referring to the contents of the post, I agree with your take, I'm referring to this wrt the 'existing customer' debate.

That Japanese reference looks like an update of legacy systems that have been in place for 40 years or so and under some sort of supply/update agreement.

The problem here is that anyone can read anything into anything, apart from the handful of folk that have actually done a load of proper research (which doesn't include me, so I'll just go by those, including ST, who actually put information into context).

No context = ignore.

I stand corrected then on my earlier post, apologies to all and thanks to 2vdm.
However that is good news in that there is still a large new potential global customer that SRT are in talks with.

I received a reply earlier from ST about the vagueness of the RNS and whether it was a new client or a new contract for an existing client. He replied as follows "Yes the wording that the customer required us to use is not entirely clear. It's a new contract with an existing customer that renews and expands their AIS product range so they can address all demand segments." So hopefully that helps a bit.

Extrader:

Just to add my thanks to you and ST for supplying and sharing the comprehensive reply (post 5675) that addresses the concerns of a lot of long term holders.

Today's RNS lacks any numbers but under the AIM regulations (which SRT seem to follow where many do not), any information that might affect the share price or is "substantial" has to be notified. As I read it, substantial in terms of turnover is "greater than 10%"

To be supplying electronic equipment to a Japanese company would show how much the world has changed. Or might it be US Flir/Raymarine? (Flir has maritime sales of over $200m pa)

Feeling more positive again about being overweight in SRT.

Well done ex trader.

Could TP put some kind of link in the header so people can be reminded of ST's very informative email ?

Todays RNS looked very good.
