Well done Extrader that was a very full answer from Simon as usual. I for one am not giving up on this one, though I have reduced my holding by about a third !!!

I dont understand why SRT issue these very obscure RNS's. It would be perfectly easy to say who the customer was, and whether they were a new customer or not.

If it is an existing customer, the increase in revenue could well be minimal and the RNS comes over as desperation after the Indonesia mess, and the outrageous zero cost options the directors took last year.

There's two doors, one to heaven and one to hell. In front of one door is a bad angel who always lies and in front of the other door is a good angel who always tells the truth.

What question (only one) can you ask one of the angels, to find the door to heaven.

Theres a clue in the number of combinations of possibilities for this contract ;-)

It's a new contract with an existing customer.

New customer.
I make my own enquiries.

Astral - we know it is a new contract and everything Simon puts out is significant!

The question is "is it a new Customer" or just a refresh of the existing range?

av,

where did you get your information ?

Very good news, the information I have is that this is a significant new contract and will add considerably to the core business, although as the RNS points out, it will take a little time to get to full throttle.

JRC active in Indonesia

Coast Radio Station Upgrades - "Summary of the 4th Project"
"Delivery and installation of the GMDSS-based communications equipment
Expansion and rehabilitation of the systems that had been delivered in the past, renewal of all the small-scale local coast stations, and introduction of the Automatic Identification System (AIS)"

And July 2017 News - "JRC launches local corporation in Indonesia to expand its coastal/disaster prevention business."

If Simon doesn't say that it is a new customer then it isn't imo.
Those that email him constantly might like to ask - surely new or existing isn't confidential!

"we look forward to continuing to working with this customer in the years to come."

Sounds rather like a new customer

edit: there's that word "continuing" ... could go either way!

Just going from memory here but last year core grew by a significant amount, wasn't it 47% from previous year???? and from the last webcast, again if my memory is correct, ST said core was healthy. So, todays announcement is quite a big deal, it's a major outlet and 'shop' footprint for their products. Looks like core is moving towards covering most of the annualised cost base of SRT from 2018.

Annualised cost base >5m <6m PA.

As EE said, removes the pressure to score (boom or bust) from project work.

And on that note, at least one ME project should drop in soon enough and at least SRT are prime contractor on that.

I also heard the were pitching for and close to a decision on a Japanese OEM at the AGM. But I'm pretty sure it's not Furuno.

ST said 'win' so sounds like an addition. But I wonder why the secrecy over the name of the customer ? Too much smoke and mirrors. If it is merely the renewal of a contract that would be a fairly desperate excuse for an RNS so let's hope not.

The RNS calls it a "new contract" - I read that as replacing an existing contract.

If it is a new customer and it's worth 2-3m annually to SRT, that would be great news. It would steady the earnings ship. Projects are great, but we have seen how unpredictable and flaky they can be. I wonder if 'core' will make a reappearance !

I suppose it is difficult to put numbers on this as the OEM's have still got to sell to the end customers who have got to persuade their existing customers to upgrade kit that may work sufficiently well already .Better kit will be more ATTRACTIVE to them and new customers of course

Well done SRT. This looks a decent contract which provides revenue visibility to core business. It also suggests less pressure on the project business to now reach breakeven.
Recent product development has probably been angled towards this contract, though SRT have never said that.

I'm just guessing it is a Japanese OEM based on convo's I had at the AGM. It wasn't a secret that they were pitching to a Japanese OEM and that the annual revenue could be decent, ignore my 5m, I did put a question mark after it but seem to remember it as a ballpark possibility.

I'm not posting 'facts' here just my opinion, but they were pitching for a Japanese OEM and expecting to hear something later in this year, so I'm putting 2 and 2 together that todays announcement is that.
