22/11/2005 11:45 | Fb Reminder Ricky Hatton fights WBA light-welterweight champion Carlos Maussa next weekend in Sheffield, but don't expect it to be a sell out. The Sheffield Arena can house up to 14,000, but the fight promoters are only using 12,000 seats and some of those will be empty. Ticket sales can't have been helped by Hatton's trainer Billy Graham asking "Who is going to buy that fight?" on Sky TV before the contest was made, while my dispute with Ricky seems to have generated more publicity than the contest itself. When he won the title by beating Vivian Harris, Maussa didn't impress me much and his only strength appears to be his unorthodox style. I can't see Ricky having too many problems. Meanwhile Hatton's biggest rival in the 10-stone division, Floyd Mayweather, has decided to have his next fight against washed -up Sharmba Mitchell. If I'd have made that match for Hatton I would have been slaughtered. | hirschnathan
22/11/2005 11:44 | Average ticket price of £150 x 16,000 (conservative figure)= £2.6m excluding showtime, excluding drinks food suvenires........... Assuming 20,000 thats £3m excluding....... Lacy purse is $1m which is £600,000 revenue is between £2m to £2.4m | hirschnathan
22/11/2005 11:24 | And compare it to The show will be a 20,000 sell out and broadcast live on ITV in the UK while American TV Network Showtime are using the fight to celebrate their 20th anniversary in boxing. So the hatton may have 12,000 (unlikely) calzaghe will have 20,000 | hirschnathan
