The holding is in an ISA for tax reasons.

Many years ago I made a lot of money from Speedy and looking at the numbers and projections, I think the shares offer superb value and offer the chance Of significant upside. I have therefore started once again to build a holding. So far only a small unit but expecting a chunk of cash soon from a profitable takeover when I will add significantly if the price is near these levels.

...well, if the Govt starts building a free home for every illegal immigrant (is it 1/2 million inmigrants/year ?) then Speedy will be surely be rushed off their feet !!

======
Economic migrants claiming asylum....it is a complete lie imo....& the UK has no legal duty to provide asylum anyway since it is the first safe country that has that obligation
...& people are not at risk in neighbouring countries such as France, Denmark, Norway, Ireland.
And Niger, Sudan, Mali et al are not neighbours to the UK.
Sunak wants to stop the economic migrants but he hasn't managed it yet & progress seems very slow.

------

Perhaps a simpler way to stop the problem is to just reduce the benefits that economic migrants can receive and then the economic migrants would not leave France to go to the UK, just because they would get better benefits/handouts in the UK.
If migrants are going to get free accomodation & free money every month in the UK then if they live in hard poverty in their own country then it's logical that they move. If the UK doesn't want to have to house, clothe & feed these enormous numbers of economic migrants then reduce the attraction, reduce the freebies.

WHAT DO ANALYSTS THINK?

Andrew Nussey, analyst at Peel Hunt, commented: ‘Speedy remains on the front foot, maintaining strategic and operational discipline to deliver its growth targets. Investors should be reassured by this statement.’

Meanwhile, the acquisition of GPH ‘looks well timed and enhances the firm’s leading ESG credentials’, added Nussey.

Charlie Campbell at Liberum said the trading update should reassure nervous investors, while widening the range of sustainable equipment with the GPH deal ‘should be successful as this will appeal to major contractors, especially when working for public projects.’

I meant X3 clean tech deals

1; AFC (hydrogen fuel cell)
2; Nifty lifts (electric hydrogen)
3; Green power hire T/O

Sorry for any confusion

---
Commenting on the acquisition, Dan Evans, Chief Executive, said:

"The acquisition of Green Power Hire is further evidence of our Velocity strategy in action, strengthening our market leadership in combining product innovation and sustainability, and positioning Speedy well in a high growth segment of the market.

"Alongside investments such as our partnership with Niftylift and our proposed JV with AFC Energy, the acquisition progresses the sustainable and technological evolution of the sectors we operate in, supports our ambitious plan to become a net zero business by 2040 and will deliver long term benefits to our customers, our people and our investors."

We normally get a trading update by mid-September announcing the date for the interim results in mid November.
The fact that's only five weeks away and we haven't heard a squeak from woke Evans and his team is rather worrying. At least Russell Down maintained a steady ship without £20 million of equipment go missing.

HS2. So the extension to Manchester has been cancelled.

(Interesting that the UK helped the EU fund for Spain to cover itself in high speed train lines...it has the second highest number of km after China
...yet the UK can not afford to pay to have lots of km itself !!
...ironic, crazy.

..crazy that the London - Edinburgh line is not full high speed, is it mostly 125mph with numerous stretches at much lower speeds.

Whereas high speed speeds are going at >= 150mph I think.

HS2 changes are unlikely to have any longer term impact, as the money will be spent on other projects (if indeed the government has funds) that are considered more of a priority.

Interesting.

But would the monopoly control regulators allow it since there are not many big hire companies ?

Anybody remember this story of old when 'Rottweiler' Martin Hughes of Toscafund lambasted Speedy for its dire performance and called for a merger with HSS Hire?

The share price is no better now than back in 2016 and Hughes no longer has skin in the game.... but it occurred to me that with HSS floundering the time could well be ripe for a Speedy takeover rather than a merger .
Any thoughts?

HSS

"...trading in the first twelve weeks of H2 23 to slow considerably to 2% (H1 23: 6.3%), "

If HSS trading is +2% then it doesn't seem bad to me. Equals "flat" imo.
Which is understandable...with the housing construction sector having slowed.

Ah...I didn't see that.

While Sykes are doing ok, profit up, not that much phps.

Speedy is partly dependant on the house building sector so that is partly the cause for SDY being cheap. Always difficult in a possible turnaround situation after a downtrend, there are pros & cons. If the perf. was exciting & the outlook was exciting then the shares wouldn't be down at 32-34p.

..I see that some house builder shares are down 6%

My guess is that that is the reason.

Ditto Davius sold mine at 34.5p too and grabbed 10000 a few seconds before you. Everything being shaken back down to where it was 6 months ago at the end of March. You get used to these market histrionics to frighten the children.
