And this from 2016...Banknote cleaningWhile there was no revenue contribution from the business line in 2015 or 2014, development expenses related to the product validation and marketing amounted to USD 500k (2014: USD 350k). With the completion of the development phase, the program costs associated with this new technology will now contract to basic marketing expenses. The Board continues to be particularly excited by this technology, which has the potential to substantially reduce central bank costs and environmental issues in disposing of soiled banknotes. It was therefore delighted that two US patents on the use of supercritical fluids for cleaning and decontaminating banknotes in circulation were issued to the Company in January 2015.The nature of the banknote industry, with its risk averse nature, long sales cycle and the many special interests which would be negatively affected by the success of Aeris(TM) banknote cleaning technology will impact the adoption cycle of the product. The company is therefore looking to partner with a credible industry hardware supplier to advance the adoption of Aeris(TM) . We also expect that with the costs of development behind us, we will be in a position to mount a cost effective and lean marketing effort to attract a central bank to evaluate the technology, either directly with us, or through a partner or licensee.

From October 2014Over that past six months, Spectra Systems has been undertaking a number of testing programs with central banks to obtain important feedback from potential customers on the supercritical CO(2) cleaning process for banknotes and to further refine its business proposition. We are pleased to provide shareholders with an update on the ongoing test process.Tests with an Asian central bank and a G8 central bank are nearing completion. The remaining work is primarily focused on the removal of toxic materials and biohazards from banknotes to protect processing staff.A test with the Banco de Mexico has been completed last month, performing a single supercritical CO(2) cleaning test at one set of parameters (temperature, pressure, duration) and testing one denomination of banknotes. Mexico, which uses a combination of polymer and paper banknotes, provided Spectra Systems with well characterized 100 Peso denomination notes sufficient in number to perform the test. The cleaned notes were then returned to the Banco de Mexico and re-characterized.Based on this test, the Banco de Mexico stated that: "specifically for the Mexican banknote mix and design, the cleaning process does not meet the central bank's needs at this time and we will consider a second trial of the cleansing technology for the new series of Mexican banknotes, to be issued in 2019".Nabil Lawandy, Spectra Systems CEO stated: "we are grateful to Banco de Mexico for their collaboration with the group and we are hopeful that we may be able to undertake a more comprehensive second test program over a range of cleaning parameter settings with the bank in the future after we incorporate their invaluable feedback to optimize the process for the Peso design".Over the past month, a second Asian central bank has initiated a test program and another third major Asian central bank has requested a detailed estimate of the ongoing operating costs based around the capacity of the commercial Aeris(TM) system being built by Cool Clean Technologies. The Board continues to be optimistic about the commercialization of the Aeris(TM) banknote cleaning technology and its potential impact on the group's performance over the next few years.

It does feel like Aeris could be invaluable for countries trying to contain CoronaVirus. I was not a holder back in the day when it was trialed in Mexico. Does anyone remember what happened...and exactly why the trial did not lead to a full adoption?

Bank note printing is still rising in many countries and especially in places like India l would expect Aeris would be a good fit. Can anyone remember which central bank did the initial testing phase?

doesn't everyone think banknote cleaning may just be a declining industry with the move over to a cashless society in developed countries? Coronavirus may well accelerate the rise of contactless payments as no contact means less risk.

Thanks, very interesting If the virus last months as opposed to weeks then surely Aeris comes into play again Every CB will know about Aeris ,it's just whether this virus is a short term or longer term problem Hopefully the former even if Aeris needs the latter

When I was in India recently, the bank notes were viewed as the biggest health hazard... ...with hand cleaning recommended whenever one had touched a bank note. Perhaps Coronavirus makes this even more of an issue in some countries.
