can't go up in a straight line forever - so it's a healthy pullback.

I'm thinking the price of Aluminium is having a big bearing on this... so if that's continues going up this might too?

yes , up again in OZ to $3.62 after closing auction after dipping to 3.55 earlier in session - very resilient in a bearish market . not sure how long that can continue but
#S32 looks good chartwise

"Credit Suisse reveals that its analysts have retained their outperform rating and lifted their price target on this mining giant’s shares to $4.40. This follows news that South32 has signed an agreement to acquire a further 25% stake in the Mozal aluminium smelter in Mozambique for $250 million. The broker expects this to lead to a notable increase in its aluminium production output. Which is very good news given Credit Suisse’s positive outlook for the metal. The South32 share price is fetching $3.52 on Friday."

Why the South32 (ASX:S32) share price is breaking out this week to a 14-month high
Booming aluminium prices are driving the South32 share price this week

sorry I just noticed your reply as I rarely logon to this inactive thread . thanks for confirmation. S32 really took off in OZ today and might hit $3.50 in near future . greedy IG charge triple commissions on NONE 250 stocks with CFDs and hence I have to use my CMC spreadbet account to trade it

Big write-up in IC on S32 by FT mining correspondent Alex Hamer. Getting rid of the company's coal assets is seen as positive. Aluminium at 1/3rd of revenue is at a 3 year high.

Intro

"Paying to get assets off your books does not usually generate investors' excitement. But diversified miner South32 (S32) saw its share price keep moving upwards after it announced in early April that it would get rid of its South African coal mines by handing the buyer, Seriti Resources, $200m (£145m) as well as a $50m loan."

Summary

"Why buy a second-tier miner when the biggest companies in the sector are doing so well? Building a portfolio is about spreading risk. South32 looks cheap valued on earnings and offers exposure to the broader industrial strength story, with a different suite of metals to the majors and less governance risk than Glencore (GLEN), which also has zinc and nickel. Rio Tinto (RIO) mines aluminium but relies on iron ore for its earnings.
South32 without the South African coal assets is a better group and will have more cash to throw around once this deal is done, despite having to fork over $200m to Seriti. Buy."

S32 getting a mini price rally on last couple of days from the Reddit/Gamestop private "investors" moving on to silver.

It is not clear who exactly is prompting silver's move other than speculative bubbles seem to be the flavour of the last few weeks.

"Our Cannington mine in Australia has grown to become the world’s largest and lowest cost producer of silver. Here we produce six per cent of the world’s silver."
