ian, the bigger discrepancy between it and competitors and esp if pound stays weak the bigger the chance of m&a. but remember the shark needs to offer a premium to the 12 month price. i think anyone bidding for it wont want to pay more than 14/15 pounds so they may be happy to wait this one out. if the shares were to fall under 950 it could see a move to 600 thats just purely technical.

if you convert to pounds (analysts were expecting about $750m ni so about 615m pounds) and knock 50m off net income it gets you 575 for full year and with a mktcap of just over 9bn you are on about 16 and a half for this year.

I think this companies mgt is pretty useless and still trying to sort the ongoing orthodox issues. Must be ripe for the likes of Spyker to consider?

Can't see previous FY earnings estimates being achieved as SN
now appear to be guiding lower on margin for the full year ?.

it was seen as pretty defensive so maybe thats why it never got to single fig pe. presently they are 17/16/15 times current and next which doesnt quite put them in the value hunter camp so theres no need to go overboard here. ive been trying to leg in and out, maintaining a position but keeping the avg going down, i presently own an eighth possie from 1125 so not keen on adding at present. nick train mentioned these a bit higher up but made it clear he wasnt interested at those prices. i think below 10 pounds a few people will start to look at them.

i have mentioned this margin issue on china before. i was surprised no analysts looked at it over the past few months. hence the "surprise" today. since china implemented zero covid its essentially put sn supply china issues in that zone into a semi permanent state. its quite poss they continue with this for a few years, so you are going to have tough comps on this issue til the end of the year now. so you are having to set back equilibrium towards the end of the year. areas of past support are around 1050 and there is a lt gap at 965. the former is quite poss and i wouldnt rule out the latter if the general mkt softens.

Just as well you didn't!
The half year report seems to be similar to all the other large multinationals , so in that sense the Market cannot really be surprised that the revenues are up but the margins are narrower from the the various headwinds.
I suspect most of us are long term holders and won't make much of it , just hold and forget.

renewed china issues should be affecting them but recent results have shown they have turned their own particular execution corner. its called elective surgey but really its not something you put off, so that business should see business regardless of what is happening elsewhere. the covid lows reached a band of sup that EI mentioned and i think that would be a great level to look at or ad. i presently hold a quarter possie in this and looking for lower levels to add to it. i want to see the mkt on its knees first as despite recent losses, its still a bit too orderly.

I agree PD looks a no brainer but seems to stubbornly sit at these low levels. It's weird so much optimism baked into airline shares say, but not here. Patience hopefully will pay off.

I doubled my holding in this one earlier today. It makes no sense for SN/ to be trading 2% above the COVID trough when electives were cancelled etc.

With a trading update imminent on Thursday and much to be positive about with this company I think you will be lucky to see the low 12s again, unless the general market is very poor for the first part of the week and SN. tracks it down unavoidably. I think now is time to stay invested and we could see £18 by the end of 2022

I agree, I expect the long term to be much higher so I hope I get back in around low 12s

jnj reported strong growth in elective surgery hence the strength in the shares here. but looks like 200dma firmly rejected. what has been encouraging is that there has been no lower low than the feb low. maybe not a big deal elsewhere but for this name which has serially underperformed its a big deal. i have a half position just a few percent below current so not in a hurry to sell it but while capped by 200dma then some weakness likely. relative to index however its probably going to do a bit better.
