Looking for a long term in within sipp, smds very choppy and spikey, and dont think this current is to recovery and all live happily ever after, expect a few fall backs yet as the mm's make a market in the chaos. Got a few good companies on radar and mixture of funds. Any other ideas for a lock up and leave... ?(with monitoring obvs)

Common sense and global observation will inform most people that the UK lockdown is likely to be nearer 3 months than 3 weeks. All this rubbish about no decision being made because of Boris needs to be tempered with reality.

I don't feel like buying anything now; markets have bounced back to an almost irrational complacency.

Yes. Normal accounting practice to conserve for bumps. May need cash to cover delayed receipts. May also be wise to preserve recourse to gov for handouts.IMO. Duration of lockdown also unquantified so cant even quantify what size provision needed.

Yes, I think a lot of businesses which say they are deferring the dividend may well make it up later in the year or make a special payment when appropriate to do so.

DR, I read the RNS as I get alerts from Sharepad, Proactive and ADVFN as soon as they are released.

What wasn't clear to me was the wording in the dividend paragraph:

"it will consider the appropriateness, quantum and timing of overall dividend payment relating to the financial year ending 30 April 2020 at the time of announcement of the results in July "

So we're not getting the dividend in May, this is clear. But since the business is supposedly not impacted by the virus, is there a chance it be would be added to the 'overall dividend payment' they talk about?

Dave,

If you edit your post and replace https with hTTps it will form a link. ADVFN a bit paranoid about 'promoting' other sites.

I use investegate for RNS service -

Against this backdrop and after due consideration, the Board has decided it is prudent to no longer pay the interim dividend due for payment on 1 May 2020, which would otherwise become ex-dividend on 9 April.

Gabster, surprised you don't know how to access a co's rns, google makes it easy?
If you invest in shares, making sure you have easy access to rns's is key.
Save links to favourites, some brokers also email them to you for owned, plus watch list co's, so no excuses. ;-)

Good trading update. Steady as she goes. Particularly liked : The Group has a highly cash generative business model and our balance sheet and liquidity profile are strong, with cGBP1.4bn of facilities currently undrawn, and no significant refinancing required until 2023. We currently anticipate our net debt to EBITDA ratio at 30 April 2020 to be around our medium term target of 2.0. Although we will continue to invest in the maintenance and efficiency of our asset base, we are taking a number of steps to ensure the continued financial strength of the business including stopping discretionary expenditure and an enhanced focus on working capital and capital expenditure. The Executive Directors will be waiving their rights to any annual bonus in respect of the current year.
