30/7/2007 13:13 | Hi CR Good point regarding future potential; there may also be extra work design the future flood defences for the UK. Regarding profit warnings, I once read an article in Shares Mag that outlined what happens once a company makes a statement about profits, the article outlined a rough rule of thumb of 3 statements is the average before you know the real story. If you look at SMC there have been 3 big phases of the share price falling and these are linked to statements about profits, it was after the 3rd phase that I bought SMC shares, as I think this is the bottom. IMO Todays news is my confidence that we're on an upward trend DYOR Hope this makes senses Andrew | gilly1965

30/7/2007 12:56 | I think they have a lot of potential from the Building Schools for the Future programme and the Olympics designwork will have to be kicking in well before the actual build programme gets underway. So getting enough business isn't a concern imo, as with AUK there seems to be a lot out there for them. It's more have they got costs undercontroll abd accounts being books prudently? I've taken the view that most companies that warn go on to warn several times before realising they need to bite the bullet and lay it all on the table. I think/hope we are probably there now, tho I doubt anyone will feel certain until it's plainly obvious. CR | cockneyrebel
30/7/2007 12:51 | Fair enough, pp. The question is whether these and other risks have been over-discounted in the current price. Many think they have been. | njp
30/7/2007 12:46 | running my own practice..........my experience is that work has slowed slighlty i am told by many that work should improve due to many factors, however i am not so sure the long term will improve due to interest rates, much work being completed etc etc etc also, from memory they have a large debt and little assets, thus a tad sceptical anyway, others will know better had a very early punt and sold, cos too up and down hope u all make a fortune and good luck plus when everyone suggesting construction can't slow down and house prices will rise forever, that concerns me as its impossible........cy | thepinkpanther
30/7/2007 12:32 | I think by the time you 'know' these are a buy they are already up 30-40% as with all turnaround stories. Not without risk but the chart is starting to look pretty positive too. Bound to be a few that still want to get out at any price, especially if that price is higher than a week ago. Not a widow and orphan stock but worth a bit of my cash I reckon - tho if these went back to 40p-45p + near term I might be tempted to scalp. CR | cockneyrebel
30/7/2007 12:13 | It would be nice to see the Directors buying again. | blackrabbit
30/7/2007 12:08 | Fair enuff NJP, altho what's history is history (hopefully). | chartwise
30/7/2007 12:08 | CR wish I had you luck on this one I tell you! Bought twice in the past, you can see on the chart both times. Its the blip just before a massive drop. Laugh about it now, brought me back down to earth. They say third time lucky so bought in on the statement. NUMS mm seem to have the stock or this seller. How many does this seller have left and what did they buy at. I have found in the past that once the big boys want out of a share they sell the lot even when the story on a share gets better. So looking for NUMS to switch to the bid for any real rise a signal the seller gone. Even if they have a seller why only allow 5k buys I had to buy in 5k lots? 6 mm's in this stock yet only 2 playing. Not a dull day. Mind you this is the only time I have seem any of my SMC trades blue. lol Good luck. 1 bid 1 offer NUMS | just looking
30/7/2007 12:06 | chartwise Given the history, I'm surprised you're surprised. There's still plenty of dilution potential - the deferred payments, and the banks may wish to see some reduction in their exposure. There's also the question of the CEO position; Walker's only part time and it's clear they need strong central leadership. Plenty of positives to look forward to though, so it's a genuine recovery play, but I'm not surprised that many people will want to see the interims and fresh broker notes. I'd reckon mid to high 30s for now until the picture clears. | njp
30/7/2007 12:02 | Thanks gilly. One great positive is that there's plenty of work out there for SMC.It's still the 2nd biggest pratice in the uk. | geologic
30/7/2007 12:00 | I don't understand. People were buying this stock blindfolded, now there has been a positive trading statement and people are unsure. Bizarre! | chartwise
30/7/2007 11:59 | well they got the most important support of all, which is the banks, i really think its turned the corner now and the only way is up. good luck all. level 2 looking good. | contactamir
30/7/2007 11:57 | Hi Geo, I'm in the same boat as you, it is tempting, I'm going to wait for retrace if it goes below 27p then I'll top up. I know some say this is a gamble, well the whole stock market is a gamble, I think SMC will recover, it may take a while and in the short term it may only be small PI's that buy and sell to support the SP, but I think another +tive news release i.e contracts and we could see a nice rise with the price stable at around 40p-50p DYOR Andrew | gilly1965
30/7/2007 11:53 | Attacking 30p.. | chartwise

30/7/2007 11:47 | Hi NJP, yep - that was a nice turn from 42p up to 146p - now back in @ 28.5p :-) I seem to time this one quite well :-) CR | cockneyrebel
