Steve: High risk true, but he who dares wins (sometimes ;-). The province is called Puntland -so worth it for the name alone- and claims to be autonomous. AOI reckon security is not an issue (guess they can afford it) and let's remember that lots of oil pays for lots of security... just look at the CVs of HOIL's execs for an example.
As for AFE - good company with lots in the ground. RAB are rumoured to be selling which explains the share price reaction, but mid to long-term it's a goodun.

Got mine now but bit weird as I got £6120 for 1144 shares = £5.35 per share!! Anyone else experience this through Hargreaves Lansdown?

I'll add RRL to my ZZZ thread, and ask my Aussie mate if he's heard of them.
But Somalia - got to be very high risk.
Sorry to hear about your AFE error - looks like a real white knukle ride.

Steve, at least you missed the action 'live'. Has been a pretty torrid week overall.
We have the same dilemna! ;) Already lost a bit of it in AFE by topping up after the RNS only to see it tank... but no drama as have a very low average.
I'm considering AOI (Africa Oil Inc) on the Toronoto venture - or otherwise RRL whi are partnering on one of their blocks. They have massive licenses and should be drilling in Q3. Any thoughts?
Apologies for O/T.

yes, nice to have a few days relaxing. Not impressed with Cambo though, and Angkor - a pile of old rocks.!! LOL
Not nice logging on today though, big losses across the board, >10%.
Still, I'd probably not have sold any even if I had been watching closer, but at least I made a little on SBE - now where to lose it again????

If you are US tax resident then you are taxed in the US on any income wherever it is earned.

Rumblefish - it probably goes to domicile ie. are you a UK resident currently living in the US or a US resident living in the US. With the arrangements between the 2 countries (double taxation agreements etc), and assuming you do not hold the investment in a tax efficient wrapper, you should only be liable for one set of taxes at the rate currently obtaining in your domicile.

anyone know how the tax system works if you are a US invester in Sibir Energy and currently living in the US. Do you pay capital gains tax in the UK or US.

Thanks for that ranald.
I guess that makes sense.
I suppose all JB client holdings in SBE are held as one holding by one trust, as opposed to seperate holdings for each client.
Just have to be patient

Relko - James Brearley told me that they might not pay out till end of month.
They say that they could only submit 1 application for payment so had to wait until close of offer before making submission.

does Timan bear any relation to what's happened here with SBE? Do people on here think the same outcome with TMAN will happen?
