Lord Knome , Bounty and others you are missing mine and Zico’s point! If we bought like I did at 129p, then sold on Tuesday at 147p, nice little profit of £10,000 on 100,000 shares!!! Plus when I buy back these at 127 or 125p next Thursday or the week after at 122p, once Rachel Reeves has her axe on O&G companies. I will be happy to buy back these 100,000 shares at an average of 125p, over coming weeks and sit and wait for share price to rise and then take the 14p divi in June next year!!!win win

Farrugio,Interesting.Capital growth in a dying local industry is non-existant and a very small, token dividend won't cut it, as people could probably do better with safer bonds or some of the better savings accounts that are now available in this IR environment.Absent a healthy dividend, what other return are shareholders meant to remain here for?Only one possible option, plough funds into a more welcoming and growth orientated Oil and Gas environment abroad.Cash

i think paying big dividends for uk companies is a mistake. once you remove the dividend it removes the wall of cash holding up the valuation.

Not worth the effort either way.

Looks like I made the right decision. On an up day for oil stocks, SQZ languishes.

Expecting to crystallise my dividend in a few days. Holders must wait for theirs.

That's the whole point UV. The discussion is about whether to hold on through the exdiv process or sell out cumdiv and buy back later after the share price has dropped. As of now selling yesterday and buying back this morning wouldn't have worked.

The reality is the first 10 minutes of the trade (8am - 8:10) the share price was 132-133p, so plenty of opportunity in the morning to top up! Worth mention: the oil price went up nicely from last closing.

143.9 (last sale yesterday) - 136.6 (first buy today) = 7.3p which is a loss of 1.7p per share for anyone selling at the close and buying back at the open today given the XD today of 9p/share (excluding any dealing charges).

As I've been saying...if the budget is less worse than billed, this should rerate. If no, we'll the next investments will be ex uk and they milk uk assets.

It may fall back to the 120s on lack of news flow. Also, dividends are weighted in the second half.

A lot of bad can happen in a year.

isnt news due?
Drilling and completion activities on the Gannet GE-05 well (SQZ: 100%) have now concluded. Data collected during drilling have shown encouraging results, and production is expected to commence around the start of November. The COSL Innovator rig is now moving to drill the next well in the campaign, on the Guillemot NW field (SQZ: 10%).

Zico is in the right! If he had bought in at 129p and sold at 143p, big bonus. Plus with x-div and share price down to 129p Friday and maybe even down to 122 or less after Reeves tax grab, it was definitely worth selling, and buying back after the budget announcements and market drop next Thursday!

Exactly Pete, and one swallow doesn't make a summer even if it potentially works out favourably this time round.

I agree with you. I have tried trading the xDiv thing a few times in the past, with variable results. By the time dealing costs and spread were taken into account, it was defo not worth the hassle. pete

Lers see how it goes. I may be wrong. Sold at 143.7. £3 dealing costs and then there is the spread.

Can I buy back circa 130p? Under 130p by Friday which is my cutoff would be a 14p dividend.

I forgot about that zico, you're right no stamp duty as an AIM share, but still not worth the effort generally imho despite the occasional example when it could have paid off taking into account the spread and volatility.

Yes, I understand the xDiv share price fall thing. My only point was that it was misleading to suggest having taken the dividend, early or otherwise, as you were not entitled to it. I hope your dealing stategy works for you. pete
