16.5% yield for SQZ, via the 'Dividend' link at the top of the header.

..if you add up the interim and final dividends for SQZ over the last financial year you get 22p which when divided by the current share price gives a current yield of 16.9%

Re DEC yes the dividend was cut - it's still reasonable but nowhere near that 18% yield any more.

97Peter, this looks a bit out of date on DEC, which no longer offers a div of 18%.

Enquest have assets, oil wells outside of UK. Plus their buyback is going well. They have cash assets and tax losses to claim against for many millions for the coming 4-5/years. Perfect merger and SERIQUEST new company bigger and better than the individuals.

I'd rather have the cashflow.

Live in hope of a volte face on the North Sea - Starmer won't have wanted to ship too many votes to the even more ignorant Greens, but by the time of the Autumn Statement, perhaps the more idiotic policies (oil's going to be produced somewhere, & we've only so many football clubs to sell to the Middle East) may have been forgotten.

Not saying it won't be bad for producers - just maybe not as bad as feared, whether that's new production licences, or not entirely ending expensing.

In the current situation I think Serica should announce a new strategy away from the UK. The North Sea assets should be bled dry with absolutely minimum investment and no new projects - this is actually the government's stated intention. The profits from this, still significant, should be used to purchase assets abroad in regimes wanting to encourage oil and gas development. In this context I think they should cancel dividends and refocus the cash into new assets abroad. Perhaps a merger with a non-UK company which has assets but needs cash would be the quickest way forward.

This iteration of Labour is nothing if not practical (for now) - it'll be no more exploration permits, not no more production permits, IMO. That's got me to take a position in SQZ.

Ed is the reason we got Corbyn which is the reason we got Boris - has Mr M ever had a proper job in his life?

....they've talked about Norway....where there's a shedload more common sense..
In the meantime...can't see anyone keen on voting for Hapless Harris...and Trump mentioned 3 words during his acceptance speech....
"Drill baby drill"
Can't see multinationals hanging around the Ftse for Ed's benefit....

I don't understand why people keep pushing an enquest merger. Are you just holders of enquest hoping that serica buy them out so you get a big payday?? I don't think a purchase of anything in the North Sea is going to happen. The bod here have made their feeling on the tax quite clear so why would the further expose themselves to more tax and use their reserves when they could use their cash reserves and funding to purchase something far away from the North Sea where they don't have to give over a load of tax money to a government determined to see them bankrupt.

Enquest and Serica merger and growth

With cash assets in both companies at an all time high, oil wells and gas wells outside of NS, plus chance to sweep up lots if smaller O&G companies together could put the new Company - SERIQUEST on par with Larger companies like Harbour???

Decided to take a position here £20k based on an Acquisition away from NS and the director spending a shedload.. There must be something cooking in the background.

Good luck all.

“I will do my utmost to continue the company's reputation for safe high quality operational performance, to realise the significant potential for growth within the existing portfolio and to add further value for shareholders through mergers and acquisitions.”

..and also there looks likely to be a pricey Dr's settlement to pay for! So if they're not going to raise taxes you're right Reeves won't want to reduce existing tax revenues.

A couple of possible positives; the stopping of new North Sea oil projects was not in the King’s speech. Also Rachel Reeve today hinted that she might well have to go along with the 5.5% review body recommendation for teachers pay. That will cost around £3 billion. That’s extra money that needs to be found somehow. She is not likely to be in a hurry to agree to Ed Milliband’s North Sea madness that will result in many £ billions in lost revenues and taxes. I.e a high chance common sense will prevail……;to the benefit of the likes of Serica and those holding the shares.

There's several O&G long term charts to browse through via the link below. The AXL chart is one of the most impressive (listed out of order just before SQZ which is in order under 'S'). I wouldn't be at all surprised if AXL is taken out of the running by a company with North American interests sooner rather than later. Nai.

I think we may all have a few interests elsewhere :)
Based on Tailwind's previous merger prowess I'm at least confident in their ability to extract maximum value from another acquisition or merger.

What about Capricorn? Assets in Egypt and Chris Cox was interim CEO.

The perfect merger/buyout would be Enquest. We both have cash assets, plus Enquest has reserves/wells outside of NS. Or maybe Arrow Exploration? Comments, thoughts?
A merger with Enquest would be quick and easy plus cost effective for both parties!!

Tabhair

Serica IS cheap on a PE of just 3 but it’s certainly reasonable to argue (and doing so shouldn’t result in down ticks) that Serica is deservedly cheap. And as with every share that’s cheap it could get even cheaper if the bear case wins out. I think it’s far more likely that like Hurricane has, Serica will adapt by looking beyond the North Sea if Milliband is allowed to fulfil his ridiculous policy on North Sea oil. But as with every opinion, events might prove it to be wrong.

Certainly not! Maybe it was Stemis or Ash ;-)

I'm holding on for an accretive acquisition if SQZ can find one. On the plus side we know that Tailwind management will not overpay!!

Serica need to make an accretive acquisition outside the UK, just look what assets abroad did for Harbour.

This would be a good one, there's not many charts like this in the O&G sector..
