I have just seen divina's comments of 2nd Sept saying it is outrageous that the JL contract award was not put out in an RNS announcementbefore being published in the press. You have not been reading them all then because it was part of the AGM statement in June: -

Joyce Loebl continues to make a strong contribution to the Group, this month winning a #6m contract for the manufacture of 500 engine and transmission management systems for use in the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and associated support and training variants. Deliveries are scheduled to commence at the end of 2004 and will continue until mid 2007. This deal follows two previous contracts: one, a development contract for the system, awarded three years ago and the other, a more recent contract to supply the systems for use in the new Titan and Trojan engineering vehicles.

Joyce Loebl wins contract Sep 1 2004
By Guy Anderson, The Journal

Joyce Loebl has been awarded a £6m contract by tank maker Alvis Vickers, pushing the electronic specialist's order book to record levels.

The three-year deal - announced yesterday - will see the Gateshead-based company supply more than 500 computerised integrated engine and gearbox systems for the fleet of Newcastle-built Challenger 2 battle tanks.

Work will start on the order later this year, and will help to underpin a core workforce of 12 plus a further 135 jobs at Joyce Loebl until 2007.

The company's order book now stands at a record £24m; up from £15m earlier this year, which was in itself a record.

Geoff Carswell, chief executive of Joyce Loebl, said: "Joyce Loebl is delighted to continue to supply its high-quality, reliable products to Alvis Vickers and the Ministry of Defence."

The contract is the latest in a series of big contract wins for Joyce Loebl.

The company recently won a £1.1m order for 66 control systems for the Titan and Trojan armoured construction vehicles which are currently in production at Alvis Vickers' Scotswood Road factory.

Alvis put the £250m engineering vehicles into full production in June this year, leading to the creation of 100 jobs. The project - which will provide three years of work - has been in development since 2001.

A fleet of 33 Titan bridgelayers plus 33 Trojan obstacle breachers will be delivered to the Royal Engineers in 2006 and 2007.

Joyce Loebl also announced a £2.7m deal for the supply of on-train security systems for Portuguese Railways and a £1.5m contract to equip the RAF's fleet of AWACS early warning aircraft with new computer displays.

Screen - the parent group of Joyce Loebl - recently announced "significant progress" which pushed turnover to £21.3m in 2003; up from £18.7m the previous year.

The gross profit also increased to £8.7m from £8.2m in 2002.

Joyce Loebl has also reduced costs for the Royal Air Force by developing a means to test aircraft, it was announced yesterday.

Previously systems to protect aircraft from enemy attack were tested with the aircraft on the ground; Joyce Loebl has found a way of testing the electronic counter-measure systems without taking planes out of service.

The Mission Data File Validation Facility is based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire at the Air Warfare Centre.

The mission data file validation system is expected to sell for about £200,000 per installation and Joyce Loebl believes it could sell up to 10 to Nato countries.

So.......a new MD for Joyce-Loebl. It was pretty clear that there was little love lost between him and the main board. When someone resigns for "personal reasons" it usually means they got the boot. Perhaps he would like to join us on this BB and spill the beans.

At least the new bloke has got an appropriate name..... does exactly what it says on the label.....

Joyce Loebl in six-figure commitment Sep 3 2004

By Howard Walker, The Journal

A fast-growing it firm has won a £50,000 contract with Gateshead- based defence and transport electronics company, Joyce Loebl - with the promise of more to come.

Washington-based Datawright Computer Services will supply consultancy services and business support software to the manufacturer, which this week won a £6m contract from tank maker Alvis Vickers.

Joyce Loebl has also made a six-figure commitment to Datawright for the next five years of business, covering ongoing maintenance support, a help desk and other services.

Datawright's initial £50,000 contract includes an upgrade of Loebl's financial, sales and planning process software to the Washington company's Kingfisher v6.

Joyce Loebl has been using an earlier version of Kingfisher for several years, which its chief executive Dr Geoff Carswell says has been pivotal in helping the business grow by more than 40pc between 2001 and 2003. Dr Carswell said: "Datawright understands our business processes.

"Kingfisher v6's additional features offer more benefits in terms of enhanced cost control and prediction of trends, strategic decision making and `what if' emergency planning."

Kingfisher enables users to input, access and configure large amounts of information relating to the company's key business processes from a desktop PC.

It also allows important financial and management information such as stock and production levels and sales figures to be called up at the touch of a button.

David Frame, head of sales and marketing at Datawright, said: "Joyce Loebl is a key business partner which has long recognised the bottom line benefits that our system can deliver.

"The senior management team has worked closely with us to oversee the smooth introduction and integration of version six and ensure that the system is in and working ahead of schedule. Both have been impressed with the upgrade path."

Datawright currently has a turnover of almost £2m and employs 37 people at its Washington headquarters.

As well as Joyce Loebl, the company has a number of other customers in the defence industry, including Alvis Vickers.

taffee - Agree totally I have stuck with SEN a long time
the news from joyce-loebl should of been released as a RNS
it is an article that has a reaction on the share price
Any news that could have an effect on a company share price should
be released.

I think its OUTRAGEOUS

I notice on the screen website the info@screen.co.uk
email link does not work. Really getting annoyed with this company.
