12/9/2024 12:46 | Sadly, I see that our dear leaders wish vaccines to be more of a regular entity and don't forget that SMT can afford some of the best researchers out there. Shares are about the future. Would you rather they sell at a low or a high....given where we are now? | hazl
12/9/2024 12:28 | Oh i'm more than happy that Nvidia are showing stability above a hundred bucks. However, the sizeable Moderna holding is very much a SMT thing.Polar Capital.Allianz technology.London and Manchester, all have significant holdings in Nvidia....even i hold them in my US portfolio! No,i mention Moderna because i'm interested in how SMT intends to resolve the problem or will it just persist as the years go by in affirming that the market misunderstands the merits of this particular investment. | steeplejack
12/9/2024 12:21 | Yet you fail to mention NVDA up premarket wonder why? Chuckle. | hazl
12/9/2024 12:14 | Moderna down 10% premarket.Sorry seems to be the hardest word.Optimistically, Moderna (MRNA) said Thursday it is reducing its annual R&D expense by about $1.1 billion starting in 2027 in light of "recent commercial challenges." The company now expects 2025 revenue of $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion. Analysts polled by Capital IQ expect $3.95 billion. Moderna shares fell 6.4% in recent premarket activity. | steeplejack

06/9/2024 09:23 | Some nobody posted ... * I've been of the opinion for some time now that the NVIDIA holding is too large and needs to be balanced out for the good of the portfolio.*So this clown thinks he could do better than the fund managers probably has no education and has a menial job Get back to your job picking up leaves in the park loser | strawberry alarm clock
05/9/2024 10:05 | Thanks Lolly. Looks like i missed the NVIDIA reduction of portfolio while sunning myself. | affemoose
05/9/2024 08:40 | AffeMoose - SMT have ALREADY reduced their Nvidia holding quite substantially, as it "only" represents 6.8% of the portfolio as of 31 July 2024. One month prior, it was 9.39%. And Nvidia's share price was generally as high - if not higher - in July versus June. So it looks like they've divested by at least a third recently: At 31 July 2024: www.scottishmortgage At 30 June 2024: markets.ft.com/data/ I agree with you though - as Nvidia climbed & climbed - Scottish Mortgage was far too heavily exposed to any sudden potential sentiment correction (as happened to an extent this Monday). So I'm glad they've reduced. Despite AI being seen as the next big thing at the moment, I sense a sector bubble waiting to burst there. Not because it won't have huge impact. But because valuations remain unrealistically ahead of themselves. As for your assertion that SMT's Board "can't seem to get away from Tech", that largely depends on your definition of tech I suppose. As you'll see from the above FT link, at the end of June, 27.03% was held in the Technology sector, 27.46% in Consumer Cyclical, 10.51% in Healthcare, 7.33% in Communications Equipment etc. | lord loads of lolly

04/9/2024 16:01 | AffeMoose - which industry will not adopt AI? and not rely on NVIDIA? | septblues
04/9/2024 10:19 | I've been of the opinion for some time now that the NVIDIA holding is too large and needs to be balanced out for the good of the portfolio. Oddly my brain waves have not been adopted by the Board. Looking over the holdings I am increasingly nervous that this share will get hammered in any negative market (much as has happened) and this negativity could continue for some time. I'd like to see diversification across industries, the tech bull has had it's fun but I am not sure that there's a lot of room left for it - just gotta find the next big thing. I do wish i'd acted on my gut a few weeks ago and sold this holding, i'd be richer now, but that's the trouble with holidays - they damage your investment ability :-) That said - any pip up, I think i'll be looking for an out of here. I look across their gholdings and do not see lots that have potential to double/triple etc in value and rerate this share upwards by 50%. A few small potential holdings but they won't move the dial a lot. They just seem to be out of ideas and clinging onto what they have already. The board can't seem to get away from Tech, which i think they need to do. all IMHO of course. | affemoose
