Yes, Willie although if it keeps falling the FTSE250 may be in doubt! Manipulation of the markets to let the funds get in first is a possibility for the skeptic.

Having said that I am a) surprised it has fallen so much but b) feel there is a lot more to come in the medium term. And it sits it in my ISA so am prepared to be patient with it.

Willie, can you recall the exdiv date? It was 7th April last year.

The 250 position appears to be making little difference--surprised this has not been more positive but-end of the week-and April is years away with regard to that Special Dividend-Hold and forget I guess :O)

Nice call CR. Exactly as you said...

Have topped up today on the expectation of entry into FTSE250. Doesn't seem to be much interest in these at the moment...

A lot of people doing well out of these then. I would think many of the employees would also be benefitting from owning shares as well.

Nice to see a strong London market. The Far East also looks particularly strong. There will be the inevitable profit-taking but with a great special dividend to add to the normal one amounting to 5% for the final dividend alone, and FTSE 250 activity, the coming few weeks should see SVS move on gain. Still only on a PE of 11 and probably less once we see the upgrades. If CWD can command a PE of around 13 that should be a minimum for this company. And that on an EPS of 60p implies 780p - so still major upside left especially given the probability of EPS being upgraded soon.

SMALLER COMPANIES UK: Savills staff get £70m for record year
Financial Times; Mar 03, 2005
By Jim Pickard, Property Correspondent

The hottest property market in living memory helped Savills make record profit during the last year.

It was so good the estate agency's staff are set to receive a £70m windfall, with at least 40 agents taking home bonuses of £250,000 or more.

Aubrey Adams, chief executive, said the market had been "a lot better" for property agents than the 1980s, which were dominated by "funny money". And he forecast that prices were likely to rise again during 2005.

Savills deals mainly in commercial property but 20 per cent of its operations are in the residential market. Pre-tax profit of £50.2m (£34.1m) beat analysts' forecasts on turnover of £328m (£301.7m) for the year to December 31. Its shares rose 69½p, or 12 per cent, to 660p, a fifteen-year high.

Basic earnings per share were 62.2p (37p) and a final dividend of 12.5p (10p) will be paid. Another 20p will be paid to shareholders through a special dividend, taking the annual total to 38.5p (13.6p). Savills' residential arm deals mainly in expensive homes, selling 765 houses in London alone last year at an average £1.5m.

Deals by Savills' commercial team included the purchase of a stake in London's White City development.

But rental markets are still flat. "I would say there was not a lot of growth coming through," said Mr Adams. "There are still a lot of vacancies to the west of London and in London as well."

Well I got away from the screen - had a little sleep and..........SVS is even further up. Still only on a PE of 11 going forward by my reckoning. Now surely in the FTSE250 bar a massive bout of profit-taking so maybe more to follow. And still a nice chunky dividend to follow.

Cat, what was that target again?

LONDON (AFX) - Savills PLC has raised its dividend after its full-year
pretax profit grew by almost 50 pct to 50.2 mln stg, with the company adding
that its trading at the start of the current year has been satisfactory.
The company's sales rose by 9 pct to 328 mln stg.
The final dividend was increased by 25 pct to 12.5p per share, making 18.5p
for the full year, a 36 pct increase on last year.
As announced in December, there was also a special dividend of 20.0p per
share making a total for the year of 38.5p per share.
The special dividend was possible because 15.0 mln stg was generated from
property trading and investment over the past few years, Savills said.
The upmarket property company said the continuing buoyancy of the global
investment markets is encouraging for all parts of its business in 2005, adding
that "prime residential markets remain resilient."
Savills said it has enjoyed a "satisfactory" start to the year and is
confident it will continue to perform well.
After the triennial valuation of its Pension and Life Assurance Plan during
the year Savills said it had made a lump sum prepayment of 15 mln stg into the
plan in 2004.

Quite a dramatic re-rating - glad I topped up on 31 Jan to the holding I've had since 2003. Shame I sold off quite a lot in late 2003. Will be reluctant to sell again ..

Willie, in my experience there is often a settling after index entry where the price falls back. This happened recently with DNX but was soon rectified! SVS has, as you say, got the beautiful cushion of the special dividend. That would be a good enough reason for funds to buy in and hold (not just trackers) and should hold the price up. But with a PE of only just over 10, there is a big cushion in that as well IMO.
