Yes that certainly helps. Retailers generally seem to be on a roll. I have a comparison chart for some of the non-food retailers on my Card thread and they have all being going up!

Still a 6% yield here, worth holding on to in my view and there's always the chance of that Asda / Morrisons style takeover as a bonus.

Thought it was a lot more. Maybe I calculated it when the share price was in the gutter a few months back though.

Running a supermarket business for maximum return is easy

Senior management like to complicate things in order to justify their job positions

"Hey look at me, and my new way of thinking" etc etc

Lock up all the senior managers and throw away the key

problem solved :)

Sainsbury’s is defying its legion of doubters

The supermarket is outpacing its rivals when it comes to the volume of products going through its checkouts. Can Britain’s number two grocer keep it up during the tough yearahead?

You are right I don't think there are any simple solutions. If they don't match Aldi ect then those customers who buy those products and then buy other higher margin products may not return. They have made cost savings but you only have to look at the size and design of a typical Aldi store compared with the huge aging typical Sainsbury's stores to see it's impossible to match them on costs.Have mixed feelings about online I agree the profitability when you look at all the costs involved can not be great but in this day and age can they really afford not to be in h that market Morrison's tried it years ago but relented eventually No easy answers here I feel.

Dividend should be maintained at least. Yield is 5%.

If Sainsbury's really cared about higher margins, they would have moved out of their expensive london head office years ago.

Also they would have ceased profit-less online grocery operations.

Waitrose are actually cheaper in some cases than say Ocado.
