But why on earth couldn't they manage this sort of performance in years past? Were previous management totally clueless?

"Significantly ahead"

Looks like they could be miles ahead sing they already did 3.8p eps in H1 imo.

An exciting co - can see these multi-bagging over time with ease imo.

Broken out through the uptrend resistance - should mean a steeper rise here now imo.

New high for SAG.

little flurry of buys mid-afternoon.

Maybe an overhang has gone as there were some large sales last week (Friday)

On the day Interims came out I tried to estimate full year results, I thought PBIT = £1.60m and EPS = 4.8p might be possible, and that was trying to be conservative.

Maybe the brokers wish to leave plenty of room for upgrades?

Nor do I - it's clearly out of date. If you ring them they might confirm that.

H1 PBT = £0.9m so, say, FY PBT = £1.8m. Av no of shs will be 30m giving eps for FY of 6p. (All very rough.)

Thanks for the reply jonwig

But that statement on 5th July was proved correct, and Interim figures did exceed forecast to the full year.

Even if they use a number of share closer to 41,720 million to calculate H2, we should still see a positive EPS figure in H2.

I still can't see how Arbuthnot came to their figures.

ic2, it's probably this, from the 5 July RNS:

The Group's profit for the period ended 30 June 2010 is anticipated to be substantially ahead of market expectations with PBT for the 6 month period ahead of the current market forecast for the year as a whole.

eps will be muddied by the increased number of shares, of course.
The placing was done just before the H1 end, so the average number of shares from Dec to June will be very close to the earlier, lower, figure. In H2 there will be a much higher number of shares in the calculation.

Hi Chaps

I have been looking at SAG since the interims with a view to buying in. I keep on going through the Interim results, to try and work out why Arbuthnot are only forecasting 2.8p EPS to full year. I see they say they think it is conservative, which looks like a huge understatement unless I am missing something.

I understand that after the placing, more shares will be used for H2, and dilute the EPS figure. And also they state H2 has less billable days due to Summer and Christmas holidays, but they are bullish also saying they have a good pipeline and recent project wins.

I tried to see historically if H2 was much weaker than H1, but with such a patchy history before Brent Hudson took over it's very hard to see.

With EPS of 3.9p already, I just can't see how they wouldn't make a profit in H2 to give a higher figure than forecast to the full year.

As I say I may have missed something, but would appreciate any views on H2.

Regards ic2........

Arbuthnot raise their forecasts to £1.2m pbt for this year and say they think that's conservative and hope to make further upgrades.

Mentions the past large tax losses and say they expect no tax to be paid for several years.

Arbuthnot retain their Strong Buy recommendation and have a price target of 70p - revised forecasts later today.

Yes, can't complain here.

Notice that they kitchen-sinked writedowns last year, some in H1 and some in H2. There are no writedowns this H1, and it's a good chance there won't be any in H2. That might mean we can expect FY eps to be at least 7.5p.
At some point they'll want to realise their stakes in Sphere and Atraverda - hopefully above book value.

Just checked on Microgen.
MR is still the Chairman (not formerly) and last week the company announced that their figures for the 6 months to the end of June would be announced on 22nd July, the day after SAG.
Same sort of approach to results from both companies, i.e. don't delay results just for the sake of it, which some companies seem to do.

CR - yes, the background of MR was a strong positive ... that he wasn't acquiring Catella's shareholding simply to line his own pockets. And it looks as though things will be turning out as hoped.

Truffle - SAG always got its results out in quick time. Unfortunately they weren't always good ones!

Hadn't noticed the point re. how quick the results are coming out, extraordinarily quick by any standards. Hopefully good news in this case, if you assume that results that come out on the last day of the requisite period are normally not good news.
