EFL call emergency meeting

The EFL have confirmed an emergency meeting will take place this morning “to make a decision on this weekend’s fixtures and beyond”. It seems inevitable that football will shutdown on these shores, belatedly following in the footsteps of many European leagues. There will be no action in La Liga for “at least the next two rounds of matches” as a result of the quarantine of the Real Madrid squad, while the Netherlands’ top two leagues have also been suspended for the same period. The EFL board and Premier League are both meeting this morning, hours after stating this weekend’s action would go ahead as planned.

At the moment there are far to many unknowns to by stocks. The gamble may pay off but there is massive supply chain disruptions. First off we had China supply chain issues, now we have the West demand issues.

There is a developing concern, including in the Telegraph today, that the behavioural scientists (those that predict/model how people will react to a given set of facts) are too influential in determining the UK's response to Covid-19.

For example, news that some of Chelsea FC's 1st team squad are now self-isolating, brings into question the advice that there should be no restrictions on attendance at PL football matches. All the more so given the restrictions in the rest of Europe.

The hope that without introducing any restrictions, everyone in the UK can carry on as normal ahead of the Easter school break, is high risk.

And the £ continues to fall against the €.

Now below €1.12, which is quite a fall from €1.20 a month ago.

I have yet to discover any explanation for this.

I'm all cash apart from some Tesla shorts re taken out in the $600 to $800 range. Waiting for this to bottom but I think we have a way to go yet. No certainty anywhere usual equals selling. Add in the massive debt burden and leverage waterfalls and it will overshoot on the downside.

Having said that if we see a quick trip to 4500 on the FTSE I will start scaling in some index longs

We are all being managed, everyone’s behaviour. I for one dislike it with a passion. Why does the UK guidelines and actions differ to everywhere else. Why are Scotland going their separate way in respect of gatherings over 500. Seems to me that the decision to close schools has been delayed for economic rather than public health reasons and that the intention is not to make that decision until the school holidays which will make the impact less.

I was just watching the latest Boris + experts press conference.

It will be many weeks if not many months before we are at the end of this.

God knows where the markets will be then and that is without regard to the future impact in the USA.

Wow, I was hopeful my FTSE 5000 prediction was overly pessimistic. Now it seems certain to be a lot lower.Guess a fair few like me are now trapped in shares for a couple of years just to get back to where we were.My total portfolio is down well over £100,000Really trying hard to take the 'experts' advise and not panic and think long term. But I'm panicking and worrying. Far to late to consider locking in any losses now and selling. Just have to hope the dividends make it all worthwhile.
