Job creation in the US economy surged last month, but the annual rate of wage growth slowed.

The economy created 313,000 jobs in February, official figures show, far in excess of analysts' expectations.

However, the unemployment rate remained at 4.1%, while the annual earnings growth rate slowed to 2.6% last month.

January's annual wage growth rate - which had triggered fears over inflationary pressures - was also revised down from 2.9% to 2.8%.

The strong wage growth figure for January triggered sharp volatility on the stock market, as investors worried that the figure signalled higher prices and would prompt the US Federal Reserve to quicken the pace at which it increased interest rates.

The increase in jobs last month was the largest since July 2016, and was helped by the biggest rise in construction jobs since 2007.

m,
I put my personal email in and they raised no objection.
When they contacted me to see if I wanted to be a member (by email) I ignored them (no hassle).

m and bar,
To read the full article you need to register.
I did that a couple of weeks ago and I was able to read complete articles for a week.
When that elapsed they wanted me to become a client (I declined - no hassle) and now I'm happy reading the abbreviated articles on a daily basis via email.

Great for long term holders Lloyd’s are doing the right thing. Barclays need to do one as well. As long as they cancel as well.

"A U.K. High Court judge said yesterday it is “appallingR21; that Royal Bank of Scotland PLC shareholders are still waiting for their share of £200 million the bank paid to settle allegations it misled investors over its 2008 rights issue eight months after the deal was struck.

Judge Robert Hildyard said at a London court hearing that the dispute between Manx Capital Partners Ltd., a major claimant in the RBS rights issue case, and the company originally formed to bring the claim had caused........."

Lloyds has an RNS to begin its £1bn buyback today, using UBS. There should be regular RNS announcements as it progresses. It's about 2% in total of the issued shares.

It is ECB rate day. Quite why the FTSE100 seems to react to every bit of macro economic news across the planet is one of life's little mysteries. But I suspect there will be the usual games ahead of Draghi's comments on QE today.
