What's stopping the Italian goverment from buying Rockhopper? It owes a debt to Rockhopper of EUR 190m + Interest. So why wouldn't they secure cheap oil and gas reserves while paying substantially less than the debt they own?

Hopefully. I think another recession is now the biggest threat to SL and RKH. I think Italy will pay when they have to. I noticed in the results they have a four month waiver on the interest accumulating, so I imagine they'll pay towards the end of that.

The Italian Government has 120 days to pay or appeal in 'limited circumstances' so if that deadline runs out RKH will have something in excess of $200m to add their share of the Sea Lion pot.And what a surprise, for some reason or other the market have got the jitters, whilst the shares have admittedly quadrupled from the lows I think that there is an upside fit for a king, those who don't like making money leave the bus at this stop...
