"It is very difficult for us to be able to talk about something else if we don't first sit down to discuss the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands". That is what, according to his own version, President Alberto Fernández told British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the bilateral meeting they held this Monday within the framework of the G7. The meeting had been requested by Johnson, interested in discussing issues related to the provision of basic supplies such as food and energy, but the point was not even explored . The President "stopped it in its tracks," according to Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero.Due to the energy and food crisis, the European Union "rediscovers" Latin America and seeks to activate the agreement with MercosurDue to the energy and food crisis, the European Union "rediscovers" Latin America and seeks to activate the agreement with MercosurKNOW MOREUntil now, the historical dispute over the southern islands has not obstructed the trade link between the two countries, which last year totaled US$1.3 billion. US$760 million in Argentine exports (feed for animals, wine, oil); US$540 million of British imports (metals, medicines, chemicals). "There is no abnormality in the commercial relationship between Argentina and the United Kingdom; no ban, no embargo, no nothing. In any case, what the President is saying is that he is not going to sit down to negotiate any special trade agreement", adjusts the international business analyst Marcelo Elizondo. In particular, the UK is behind a free trade agreement with Mercosur. The abandonment of the European Union bloc implied a rearmament of the United Kingdom's foreign trade strategy. Already in 2016, the year of the referendum that started the Brexit process, it created the Ministry of International Trade with the aim of adapting the trade agreements that it had as a member country of the EU, so that they are active in a bilateral form from the day one of its "independence". President Fernández, between Johnson and Joe Biden, in the family photo of the G7 Summit. PresidentAs Alfredo Fierro, director of the Trade and Investment area of ??the British Embassy in Argentina, explains to elDiarioAR , the United Kingdom was the country in the world that closed the most agreements in the last year and a half, around 130 since its departure from the EU bloc. . Most were adapted and relaunched, but others were negotiated from scratch, such as the one signed with Japan, Australia or the EFTA, which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. "There is interest in negotiating an agreement with Mercosur ," confirms Fierro and points out that the idea -- which has been around for four years -- did not advance due to the lack of a unified criterion within the South American bloc. "There has always been one of the partners that was not ready, or one that was more ready than the rest. At some point it was Brazil, in another Argentina, in another Paraguay," says the official, who admits that the Malvinas issue is "one of the stumbling blocks." "The United Kingdom came very packed with this agreement, but it got stuck on the Mercosur side and other countries took the priority position it had. Especially since there was a lot of interest in moving forward from other regions, such as the Middle East and in particular the United Arab Emirates, and they were given priority, "he commented. However, in the meeting with Alberto Fernández Johnson he tried to refresh the matter. The countries that make up Mercosur are obliged by the Treaty of Asunción to coordinate their tariff policy, but the bloc is not going through its best moment and its constitutive letter is pierced. Uruguay began to negotiate bilaterally with China and is also willing to dialogue with Turkey; Brazil unilaterally lowered tariffs three times. In any case, the British position is, for the moment, to wait for the countries to agree internally and to negotiate with the bloc.Another alternative, technically possible, is to unfold the agreement already negotiated with the European Union and make it work also as a Mercosur-United Kingdom agreement. The British consider that they could even improve some terms for Argentina, given that the main European barriers were designed to protect farmers from other EU countries such as France or Ireland . The United Kingdom is not particularly affected by the fact that the more wine, the more grains, the more olive oil, the more meat. Boris Johnson signs the trade agreement with the EU after Brexit elDiario.esCan the United Kingdom, in this context of need, evaluate the possibility of opening the Malvinas chapter? Johnson anticipated not. "It's a settled issue 40 years ago," he said. The country is not as in need of energy as other countries in continental Europe, although it is stalked by food inflation, which would be easier to prop up if a wide range of suppliers were available. Regarding this new strategic position that Argentina has in the context of war, another strong piece of negotiation under its control is the possibility of discussing investment and business conditions in the South Atlantic, something in which the United Kingdom is especially interested. The background is the oil agreement signed between the two countries in the 1990s, which was denounced and unilaterally canceled under the government of Néstor Kirchner. "Both countries will work together to develop the energy industry in the South Atlantic and will share the results of the same," said that text signed by Carlos Menem. An agreement that some point to as an argument in favor of Argentina's position: the United Kingdom agreed to share royalties from a territory that was supposedly theirs. It is a chapter, anyway, for the moment Alberto Fernández is not willing to open.

Why do people keep constantly assuming Rockhopper will actually win the Arbitration case against the Italian Government ?

It's a massive assumption by the ramping clown and all his multiple usernames and aliases that Rockhopper will receive any money at all.

Quick dose of REALITY..............Rockhopper might LOSE

As for the time frame, the only people that GENUINELY know, are the Arbitration team themselves.

Then, there are Rockhopper's huge decommissioning liabilities

Why do people keep assuming the award is on these dates. The award can land any date up to the 23rd August. Under exceptional circumstances ,it could be extended further. Why after 5 years they need more time is beyond me.???It's nothing to do with the 3000 dollars a day the arbitrators are on is it ???Consider:The OM Award is only a few weeks away (Aug 23 or Oct 22), when the quantum will be known.
