"Talitha - still all to play for despite disappointing Kuparuk test" Canaccord Genuity view Talitha #A well test delivers disappointing flow test in Kuparuk Operational activity at the Talitha #A well, on the company's 100% held Talitha production unit located on the Alaska North Slope, has concluded. The flow test results from the Kuparuk, the deepest of five encountered reservoirs, hampered by operational issues, were disappointing, with intermittent flow rates of up to 100 bopd light oil. That is less than the drilling and logging data had suggested from the high quality reservoir interval tested in the well, and in comparison with other nearby highly productive Kuparuk field rates. Nevertheless, Pantheon believes that the drilling and logging results have validated its earlier assumption that the well overall has confirmed over 1 billion barrels recoverable potential across the five reservoirs found in the Talitha target. Independent expert analysis by Baker Hughes has also identified five zones with high oil saturations that correlate to Pantheon's own reservoir assessments. In our view, the commercial potential of Talitha must await verification through flow testing of each zone, which the company expects to carry out next winter. There is an enormous amount of well data that must now be incorporated into the company's 3D seismic data to tune its understanding of Talitha and the wider area prospectivity. That work is underway, but will take some time. In parallel, the company will restart its farm-out strategy. Kuparuk flow test review The particular difficulties encountered in the testing of the Kuparuk zone were related to the over-pressured nature of the zone. These challenges were not fully overcome in this well test. Flow rates of up to 100 bopd were recorded from the 60 ft sand interval tested, recovering light oil of 42 API. These flow rates, even after allowing for the operational challenges, indicate likely lower recovery from this zone than originally anticipated. The four shallower reservoir zones were not over-pressured, and so testing should be a simpler process. Shallower zone review Four hydrocarbon zones remain untested. The Talitha #A well was located optimally for only the topmost interval, the Shelf Margin Deltaic (SMD). While the SMD was not as well developed as expected, updated company interpretation confirms its lateral extension to Alkaid, and likely better quality distribution elsewhere across the licence. The Basin Floor Fan (Upper and Lower) were positive surprises in terms of thickness and reservoir quality, and Pantheon believes that derisks its largest prospect, Theta West. Valuation, target price and rating Our 100p target price was, and is, based on a risked NPV10 valuation of only the Alkaid 2C resources (77 mmbbls) and SMD prospective recoverable potential (302 mmbbls) at 40% CoS. Given Pantheon's view that Talitha contains over 1,000 mmbbls recoverable potential, we think it is too soon to make any adjustment to our target price. However, we recognise that the disappointing well test result in the Kuparuk zone is likely to lead to near-term share price weakness. Beyond that there is still much to play for - in Talitha, Alkaid, and Theta West. As a result, we maintain our SPECULATIVE BUY rating, though investors should look for an entry point after any near term share price weakness to a company that still offers considerable longer term potential."
