03/11/2022 13:12 | Tag57 Having a look at those now thanks Noticeable that despite the fuss in the media about the 3/4 point rate rise, many income stocks and renewable trusts haven’t plummeted, as they did with the mini-budget. A good demonstration of how events can be priced in perhaps. Similarly talk of a long recession from the BOE has not spooked the markets, so perhaps a good time to start buying trackers. | yump
02/11/2022 18:35 | @yump I too am reweighting my portfolio to give more prominence to income. Rather than try to build a portfolio of individual high dividend/income stocks, however, I am looking much more towards relevantly focused ETFs and (some) selected ITs. Sure, I may catch a little piece of some future Carillion or Intu ... but I won't take any heavy hits. The population of ETFs/trackers more and more seems to offer good options to make strategically focused investments while minimising the risk that some individual corporate catastrophe drastically erodes my capital. | saltraider
02/11/2022 17:30 | Yump, there are two boards set up to discuss SBLK, well worth a read to build up your understanding and knowledge. | tag57
02/11/2022 17:12 | Looks like I'm in the same boat as a few here, building up dividend stocks for retirement income. Just got to keep away from the Carillions and the Intu's of this world and look very carefully at why dividends are very high in a few stocks and whether any structural changes are likely to kill them off (eg. online movement with Intu). Only buying a few stocks, the rest in trusts and funds. Just started buying some renewables before the mini-budget and dived in afterwards, assuming it was a temporary shock. Dividends on a par with gilts, but some capital growth on top now. Could all go into gilts I suppose but that really does put a limit on any possible capital growth. SBLK looks very interesting but don't know enough yet to assess the risks. I guess the ideal income stock is one that is simply out of favour, rather than at long term risk, then capital growth is possible as well. | yump
02/11/2022 16:29 | Had a look at SBLK and bought in. Looks good I must say. Thanks Spawny. | xtomo
02/11/2022 15:17 | Yeah this week stateside has thrown me. Their clocks change this weekend so back to 14:30 come Monday. | tuftymatt
01/11/2022 14:30 | Remember that the new city in Saudi Arabia (Neom) will consume building commodities like you've never seen before. | eurofox
01/11/2022 14:00 | Yeah if China comes back on we could be in blast off mode!! | tuftymatt
01/11/2022 13:23 | Things may be looking up. :) | craftyale
31/10/2022 14:21 | Short squeeze? | eurofox
29/10/2022 20:01 | Much appreciated tuftymatt. I'm trying to build a similar dividend paying portfolio with a view towards retirement. My biggest holding currently is SBLK. Astronomical dividends right now. Have a look at the board I set up here. Mount Teide is a very informed poster on the subject. | spawny100
29/10/2022 18:59 | Hi spawny100, Currently I hold shares in 42 individual companies / REITS inc Twitter which technically has gone and was only a recent speculative purchase at sub $49 so more of a bet really. Some are nowhere near my £10k limit and there are few in there that I now scratch my head over getting involved with!! Oil, mining and insurance are the biggest sectors I hold and having recently recently sold out of OXY my biggest holding is the US company DVN. My objective is to slim it down a little but keep buying on dips and build a dividend paying portfolio that along with my 2 main pensions will keep me going during retirement. | tuftymatt
29/10/2022 15:41 | Thanks Tuftymatt and also for the feedback. I presently hold 1600 shares. 600 purchased yesterday at 45, the rest between 46 and 53. I might buy 400 more between now and April. I have bought and sold a number of times. I invest for income with RIO and perhaps a gain in share price over the coming years. Im under no illusion of the coming problems in the economy. | craftyale
29/10/2022 11:52 | Waiting for this to turn:- Good weekend all | podgyted
29/10/2022 09:15 | What sort of size portfolio are you talking about tufty? 10k in each shares would mean dozens of shares in a reasonable sized portfolio. I find it hard to keep up with news from more than 20 or so companies. | spawny100
29/10/2022 08:59 | CraftyAle, I hold 192 at an average of £48.52 I have a bit of room left to buy more but limit all individual holdings to £10k. Got burned once, like many I guess, falling too much in love with a certain share only for it to blow up in my face. Now I am much more cautious and have a diverse portfolio of UK and US companies held in an ISA and SIPP. | tuftymatt
29/10/2022 00:54 | Thanks Spud. | craftyale
28/10/2022 23:15 | Edit. Only 400 shares as in isa. spud | spud
28/10/2022 21:35 | Also topped up today when 45 was triggered. Sold out of SHEL to further increase my holding. Pretty well there but have more to invest between now and the next tax year. It would be interesting to hear how many shares others hold, it might stop me from getting carried away. GLA. | craftyale
28/10/2022 16:02 | All in now at an average slightly higher than where we currently languish. Very comfortable. spud | spud
28/10/2022 15:55 | Very tempted to top up, but will hold off for the weekend. Why? Because I am a wimp. | thamestrader |
