01/9/2022 06:24 | SYDNEY--Rio Tinto PLC said it has agreed terms with Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. to acquire the remaining shares in the Mongolia-focused copper miner that it doesn't already own. Rio Tinto said it has agreed to pay 43 Canadian dollars (US$33) in cash to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Turquoise Hill, representing an improvement on its most recent offer of C$40 per share. Turquoise Hill, which is 51%-owned by Rio Tinto, has a 66% interest in the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in Mongolia. Rio Tinto said the C$43-a-share proposal represents its best and final offer, and that it values the Turquoise Hill minority share capital at around US$3.3 billion. It has also agreed to several new measures aimed at boosting Turquoise Hill's liquidity in the near term. "This agreement represents another significant step following the recent commencement of the underground operations, and will simplify governance, improve efficiency and create greater certainty of funding for the long-term success of the Oyu Tolgoi project," said Jakob Stausholm, Rio Tinto's chief executive. If the transaction is successful Rio Tinto will hold a 66% interest in Oyu Tolgoi with the remaining 34% owned by Mongolia's government. 24/8/2022 10:16 | Does anyone here expect Rtz to take over or JV the majority of central and south Finland ( Russian border) via Diamonds and gold Off KDR (pinks Lahtojoki and Kuhmo Emerging diamond province) and CGNR Gold. Didn’t they obtain the Argyle mine of Ashton back in the day on the QT. Recently Rtz has placed on care and repair Star diamonds in Canada and possibly a exit. Odd as the diamond market are expected to boom over the next 8 years. In favour of much richer pickings in Finland?? | hooops
23/8/2022 21:03 | Yeah I think it must be connected to China. Get those building projects running again / completed and that will lead to more demand hopefully. | tuftymatt
23/8/2022 19:06 | Yes, I know daily movement is essentially random but with bhp rising as well I wonder what improved sentiment. Maybe some more concrete action from China in the property issues or more stimulus (eg lowering of RR)? | greendig
23/8/2022 17:03 | Nice rise today | badtime
22/8/2022 23:23 | Careful I know the feeling but my biggest concern is the GBP, which with it being pummelled is helping global UK listed stocks. To me they are looking a store of value for the time being. Especially the miners. | j4ckthehat
22/8/2022 16:45 | Careful, maybe fear and fearful shouldnt come into your thinking. Emotion and investment should be other peoples thought processes. If your not convinced, keep your 50 percent cash ready for the correction you think is coming. Fear and greed of others can be used to your advantage :) | craftyale
21/8/2022 12:45 | Careful, I agree it is not an easy time but then with volatility comes opportunity. I am 100% in equity but with significant exposure to US $ through O&G, commodity and PE investments. Plus trying to take the long term view and look past the day to day ups and downs, although not easy. | tag57
21/8/2022 12:37 | I am struggling with strategy. 50% cash 50% shares right now because I am fearful that we are about to have a gut churning correction. I tend to be contrarian so recently I have been taking profits on oil and miners. I also fear a Labour government in the next 2 years, and think that the Utilities will at best be ruthlessly regulated, at worst nationalised. I am convinced that our economy is in serious trouble, hence the high cash %. ..but cash is also worrying when it is £ Stirling, a Zimbabwe like currency and high inflation. I do not believe HMG can do anything about it. | careful
21/8/2022 10:46 | I wish I could buy more but I have no money. The miner’s have it all.Great dividend though, but I wish I could release some capital. Maybe soon they all improve. | hopefuldave
18/8/2022 13:43 | Post ex div we are at an equiv of 5150. Happy I held, and like many others also happy to top up in a patient manner. Long term interest in RIO and a fairly significant holding for a PI. | craftyale
18/8/2022 09:50 | No etfs.purely my portfolio of half a dozen top100 companies, mainly miners and pharmaceuticals.it | hopefuldave
18/8/2022 09:30 | True Dave but remember the markets are open most days and opportunities nearly always present themselves if you hold a diverse portfolio. Also do you hold any ETF's or just specific company shares? | tuftymatt
18/8/2022 09:26 | Thank you matt,I’ll have to be patient then, and in the meantime the divvies will keep coming in. It’s frustrating because there’s bargains out there to be had. | hopefuldave
18/8/2022 09:18 | It will pick up again Dave but the big question is when. Pound cost average in when you can and long term you should be ok. | tuftymatt |
