Rio Tinto To Redeem $2.5 billion in Bonds

LONDON-- Mining giant Rio Tinto PLC (RIO.LN) Monday said it will redeem $2.5 billion in bonds as part of its measures to reduce debt.

The redemption is part of the company's ongoing capital management plan, the company said.

Sterling was quoted at USD1.2989 early Monday, dipping from USD1.3031 at the London equities close on Friday. A weaker pounds tends to boost the FTSE 100, as many of its constituents earn in foreign currencies.

amazing that the FTSE and even the ASX have become detached from the DOw and doing their own thing in last few days ! have not seen that before and wonder why ??
