18/2/2004 16:11 | Hi AMARONE andyprice5569 - don't be offended but I am always interested in the motives behind someone giving you (or me) a tip, what was your 'acquaintances' motives in this instance? His motive was simply from a 'double bottom - oversold' perspective. 'Particularly as the terminology you have used implies that you know them only slightly. He has his own MSN share chatroom and is a TA trader (professional), I 'know' him through another aquantance I have known through the various BB's I belong too. Since I've 'known' him (5 months), I've found his advice, on indices and stocks to be very very very reliable, so he said he'd taken a punt, I did a little research and found out some more info that he had not posted (and posted it to 'help' others in the 'syndicate') and took a punt myself. I've since learned that he has sold today (@ 20p) as he is happy with that rise, for myself, I have a trailing guaranteed stop loss which itself is 87% in profit, so I'll let it run knowing that I have 'banked' 87% and there could be more to come. I once had a friend who gave me what I thought was the inside track on a stock only to find that he'd gone and told every man and his dog IN MY BLOODY LOCAL as well! Since then I've always been intrigued as I could never find out what his motives were as most of the people he told couldn't even spell speculative! This has happened to me, and I've invariably been burned. I try not to blame the person who gives me the tip as its my money and I should do some research before I part with it. 18/2/2004 15:59 | lEEWINK - it was I that invited MDWers (GUMBERR) as we are both on the MDW thread. It wasn't a ramp, merely an invitation to browse the GMX thread as we are a friendly bunch who like to exchange good quality information with fellow investors. I believe GUMBERR was merely returning the invitation and there's nothing wrong with expanding your radar in my mind. After all that's how I got GMX on my sharewatch in the first place. | amarone | |
