Yes it is. A decision maker on the purchasing side who likes scale! Please.

Alch, here's a pic of stacked generators - one portacabin is a 1MW diesel generator - you can simply stack as many as you like. There are fields of these cropping up in a desperate attempt to maintain grid stability in the face of growing intermittent penetration. (So much for windmills being zero carbon - they are, but they need high carbon kit to correct for their intermittancy if generation is used.)

so both space and money is available for thousands of portakabin sized things if they do the job required. We know portakabin sized flow cells do the same job of correcting for intermittency in a zero carbon manner . They also use excess wind generation which would often be constrained off, so a double whammy.

it's only a matter of time until we see banks of hundreds/thousands of flow machines as grid support kit instead of diesel gensets.

is that the question you asked?

The Redt machines are modular so can be as big or small as you need so yes.

Could we get a big order whose value dwarfs our current Marcap ...? By a country mile?

As a matter of interest, is Vanadium by which I think I mean Redt ok for these very very large storage projects, now or as we build up to it?I think the answer is yes, but grateful the informed confirm.May we see stacks of containers as far as the eye can see , landscaped of course?

Further to that, the right type of energy storage companies doesn't involve hydrogen.

We are heading for an energy shortage, and it's impossible to use hydrogen in practical terms for mass storage due to its inherent 25% cycle efficiency - meaning 4 times the amount of energy is put in to the amount got out.

the hydrgen economy needs cheap mass nuclear energy ... and that wont happen in the foreseeable future.

W is a unit of power

Wh is a unit of energy

It's amazing that journos writing about energy don't know the absolute basics about it.

'100MW of energy storage' makes no sense whatsoever. As to what it's all supposed to mean, well that's anyone's guess.

i'd guess at 'a lot of energy storage is required available at high power levels' in that program.

if you look at the planet, the closest estimate to energy storage requirements is so large we may look at as effectively infinite. which is nice for those invested in the right type of energy storage companies.

The Queensland state government says it has received 115 proposal from 79 businesses from its “Renewables 400” program that seeks at least 400MW of large scale renewable project including 100MW of energy storage.

The tender closed on September 25, but the numbers were only released in state parliament by energy minister Mark Bailey on Wednesday.

The 115 proposals account for a total of 9000MW of renewable projects, more than 20 times the capacity sought, and 6000MW of energy storage, including battery storage and several proposals for solar thermal projects of the type built at Crescent Dunes in Nevada and to be built in Port Augusta.

Excellent points dlg, thanks. I was being a bit tongue in cheek about the rhubarb. It reminded me of The Goon Show.

This is going to be great. A great journey. When will we know when it's a new orthodoxy ..it being flow machines, and we have to smile when we're told about them as the new thing by "late adopters"? Assuming we've never heard of them.

One of the reasons REDT use Vanadium is that there is no risk of cross contamination when the membrane fails and the electrolyte last forever...

How much do they charge for a full electrolyte change, including labour..?? bet its not a cheap!! that would have to be factored into the cost.

Shavian yes looks good, if you were looking in last year when the subject was covered, you would see that the Tech. is where REDT were 10 years ago, it is also organic so degrades over time....

A couple of other things you forgot to mention, vanadium is quite unique in that it uses the same substance for the cathode and anode, when!! not if the membrane fails the 2 sides of the battery mix, in a conventional flow battery that is a complete electrolyte change, with vanadium you just change the membrane.....plus the rhubarb battery as you put it uses oil for the quinones and may some day use Rhubarb...

They are no further down the line with development than they were in 2014.

Forgive me if this has been posted before: Telegraph article from last summer, but pretty insightful nonetheless:

Maybe we should be looking beyond Vanadium as an electrolyte, if we can store energy in flow machines using rhubarb oil! Scott, are you listening?

I'm off to plant some rhubarb in my polytunnel....

THE RACE HAS BEGUN...

France plans to invest €20 billion in its own energy transition plan to increase clean energy deployment by 70% over five years, while it has also moved to reduce connection costs for smaller-scale renewables.

Under France's so-called 'Great Investment Plan 2018-22', €7 billon would be invested in renewable energy, €9 billion in energy efficiency and €4 billion in the switch to electric vehicles.
