Pollution linked to one in six deaths

Pollution has been linked to nine million deaths worldwide in 2015, a report in The Lancet has found.
Almost all of these deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries, where pollution could account for up to a quarter of deaths. Bangladesh and Somalia were the worst affected.
Air pollution had the biggest impact, accounting for two-thirds of deaths from pollution.
Brunei and Sweden had the lowest numbers of pollution-related deaths.
Most of these deaths were caused by non-infectious diseases linked to pollution, such as heart disease, stroke and lung cancer.

UK has one of the worst pollution death rates in Europe, major study reveals

Sizeable, we also have all the recent promotion in Australia to add to our prospective client list. Also Scott said during last meeting there’s some big deals that are very nearly finalised. Interesting run into Christmas ahead.

He said redT was working with about 100 customers around the world with a pipeline of hundreds of millions of units to be deployed in the next few years. “We’ve brought to the market the lowest cost form of this technology.” Last month, the company announced the sale of 14 energy storage units in Botswana.

One of its applications was providing solar back to the grid.

“Were talking to a number of big developers about putting in some very big systems, and plugging straight into the grid, which then becomes grid and storage. When you provided back to the grid, it becomes baseload power,” Mr McGregor said.

Enel SpA is seeking acquisitions in the energy storage business, as developments in battery technology are set to play a key role for the wider adoption of renewable sources.

Europe’s biggest utility by market capitalization sees the U.S., Europe and Latin America as the markets with the most potential, Chief Executive Officer Francesco Starace said in an interview.

"Technologies are fast approaching the point where batteries will be commercially attractive,"

it's all BS - of course there'll be many more evs in the future, but not on the scale the gov, you and bloomberg imagine.

i've just proved it beyond any doubt. The grid can't handle that amount of energy, and we don't have the generating capacity to generate that amount of energy.

the maths was pretty simple, it's easy to see.

but not to worry, hybrids or range extended evs can use existing fuel for on-board generation. Electric/solid oxide fuel cell hybrids can use existing fuel infrastructure, and generate on board electricity from oil products (or biofuel) without combustion.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance has said, "We found that electric vehicles could displace oil demand of 2 million barrels a day as early as 2023.

Total BS I'm afraid Dig.

1 barrel is 1.7MWh

2,000,000 barrels is 3.4TWh

2M barrels per day is 3.4TWh/day which is 1,200TWh/year

The grid currently transmits 330TWh/y (and it's struggling)

Anyone who thinks the grid can carry 4 times the current energy, or will have the generation resources, in just 8 years time is in cloud cookoo land.

(That is just the energy considerations, pointless looking at the much more restrictive power consideration).

SoCore Energy’s Advanced Energy Solutions team and National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) hosted the webinar, “An Introduction to Energy Storage for Co-ops”. Moderated by SoCore’s Business Analyst, Bill Francis, the webinar featured insights from:

Brad Seibert, NRTC | VP, Next Generation Energy

Madeleine Klein, SoCore Energy | SVP, Advanced Energy Solutions

Frank Bergh, SoCore Energy | Director of Product Development

Chris Kuhl, SoCore Energy | Director of Business Development

NRTC selected SoCore, on behalf of its members, as their exclusive partner to assist with developing solar energy and energy storage projects for rural electric cooperatives. This webinar, and the ones to follow, serve as a continuation of our long-term strategy to bring advanced technology to members. Storage is a dynamic resource that provides new options for co-ops, and can create value when the right technology is selected. SoCore’s Advanced Energy Solutions team closely evaluates each customer’s needs and challenges in order to decide which technology will best deliver solutions and make the most financial sense.

How an Illinois utility used wind, solar and storage to power a microgrid for 24 hours

A Midwest utility has taken a critical step closer toward a distributed, decentralized power grid.

Ameren, in partnership with S&C Electric, a Chicago-based smart-grid engineering firm, successfully completed a 24-hour “islanding” test earlier this month at the utility’s newly built microgrid in Champaign, Illinois, using wind, solar and battery storage.

“Islanding” refers to a microgrid — itself a network of power generation and consumption — temporarily disconnecting itself from the broader, regional power grid. Many analysts believe the power grid of the future will consist of these kinds of localized, networked microgrids over the centralized “hub-and-spoke” model that has existed for over a century. The ability to island is seen as a core function of microgrids.

Electricity will be the ‘Fuel of the Future’ say Experts at The Economist’s Energy Summit

Electricity will be the most efficient form of energy in the future, powering everything from food production to transportation and replacing traditional sources, said experts speaking on Thursday at the Economist’s Energy Summit in London.

Irrespective of the appointment of Donald Trump as president-elect — a fierce climate denier — the panel was optimistic that long-term economic growth and market demand would necessitate a supply of energy with a smaller carbon footprint.

Dr Lawrence Jones, Vice President of International Programmes at Edison Electric Institute, called electricity the “fuel of the future”, stating that its evolution would likely be a mix of centralised and decentralised systems.

Does Electric Vehicle Progress Signal Peak Oil Demand And Lower Oil Prices?

Peak oil demand has become the media flavor of the day, with numerous consultants and research groups rushing onto the bandwagon, the latest being a warning that "Oil prices are poised to crash to just $10 per barrel over the next six to eight years as alternative energy fuels continue to attract more and more investors." Similarly, Bloomberg New Energy Finance has said, "We found that electric vehicles could displace oil demand of 2 million barrels a day as early as 2023. That would create a glut of oil equivalent to what triggered the 2014 oil crisis."
