Still learning.Presumably there's quite a control unit dictating when to store when to give out energy and what rate?A programmable control. A processor - with an algorithm?Look up table , time of day, current grid prices, time til dawn, weather for3cast, temperature..... many more parameters....anybody know?

What if the Aussies say we wanted tesla battery,s if we wanted samsung we would have a contract with them....samsung sdi battery made in China....what happened to teslas giga factory? production not up to speed???

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy through increasingly affordable electric vehicles in addition to renewable energy generation and storage. At the heart of these products are batteries. Today at the Gigafactory, Tesla and Panasonic begin mass production of lithium-ion battery cells, which will be used in Tesla’s energy storage products and Model 3.

The high performance cylindrical “2170 cell” was jointly designed and engineered by Tesla and Panasonic to offer the best performance at the lowest production cost in an optimal form factor for both electric vehicles and energy products.

State power utility Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has invited bids for the construction of a 100-MW solar power project, a sign that the landlocked country is moving to address its crippling electricity supply deficit.

In a statement on its website BPC said that the photovoltaic (PV) solar project would be completed within two years of the selection of a development partner, after a preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor has been picked following the tendering process.

The solar plant is being built in anticipation of an increase in electricity demand in Botswana. Projections by BPC suggest that demand will grow to 1,359 MW by 2035, from 600 MW at present – at least 50% of demand comes from the country’s growing mining sector.

New renewables capacity will also help address the current generation deficit that has forced the country to rely on power imports from South Africa and Mozambique.

BPC has also called for a plant with “suitable storage capacity,” suggesting the tender could include a battery storage component.

Hydrogen linked with oxygen is water surely and that is too dense to escape our gravitational pull.I'll need to research how it happened on Mars. Or are we assuming it had lots?
alchemy

17:03
Because hydrogen atoms are so light, they can easily overcome a planet's gravitational pull and permanently escape into interplanetary space - in fact, that's how Mars ended up losing most of its water.

So when we release all that hydrogen from the water and it escapes into the atmosphere, we will have nothing to drink.....!!!! sounds like a good idea to me !!!

Pierre Oreilly Yes that is right but where it is burned to produce energy it releases nitrogen oxide. But there are many problems with hydrogen..... hydrogen can indirectly deplete the ozone layer....

Agreed alchemy, and that’s the interesting thing about this new Green Revolution. It will be lead by well organised engineering companies with great IP (like RedT, also an ITM fan). Musk is a bit too ‘evangelical’ for me; he loses credibility when he slags off other (probably equally valid) solutions suggesting his is the only way forward. The valuation of his company is ridiculous (though well done to those who brought in at the start).

Most hydrogen proposals are for use in fuel cells where it isn't burned. The main problem with using hydrogen as the energy storage medium is that it's only around 25% effecient, so you need 4 units of energy to produce a useful 1 unit. That means hydrogen is a non starter. It was proposed when loads of nukes could supply cheap hydrogen, but that isn't going to happen.E.g. the electric future for cars will be batteries plus solid oxide fuel cells which can use directly any readily available fuels like petrol, diesel, biofuel etc - no need to build another infrastructure for hydrogen.

any burning of any fuel can produce Nox....

NOx is produced from the reaction of nitrogen and oxygen gases in the air during combustion, especially at high temperatures. In areas of high motor vehicle traffic, such as in large cities, the amount of nitrogen oxides emitted into the atmosphere as air pollution can be significant. NOx gases are formed whenever combustion occurs in the presence of nitrogen

even hydrogen has its problems, unless it is burnt in a pure oxygen atmosphere it produced nitrogen oxide.

If carried out in atmospheric air instead of pure oxygen, as is usually the case, hydrogen combustion may yield small amounts of nitrogen oxides, along with the water vapor.
