23/3/2017 21:39 | Worryingly he's a shareholder, apparently. Why not just email the company Bobby? Be better then prospective customers reading your childish rubbish. Just a thought, hopefully you won't now go and write about tea or coffee as hilarious as it might be to some. | dogrunner11

23/3/2017 21:12 | An update on Gigha from the man in Livi would be something. | eithin
23/3/2017 21:10 | Ayr makes computers. OK for the control systems. Any chance that they are planning assembly on their own having taken on the guy from Jabil.? | fieldhouse
23/3/2017 20:33 | Still got Ayr facility !! | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 20:26 | A pity that the local production site is closing as it was clearly an advantage to redt during the pre production phase. Redt need low cost production and clearly Jabil have had large reduced demand from other contacts. To continue at the Livingstone site would clearly be uneconomic. Far better to produce at a site that is economic and able to produce Redt storage systems at low cost. Disappointing but not the end of the world. | fieldhouse
23/3/2017 20:05 | I was thinking that - another grant to keep the staff employed a bit longer!!!! Until after wee jimmy krankies next Indy vote anyway!! Lol | cheek212
23/3/2017 19:55 | It is possible, of course, if the Scottish Government give Jabil a worthwhile order they will reopen the plant.... | netcurtains
23/3/2017 19:41 | Jabil Ayr, surely if they are to manufacture the stack unit here they will have the correct expertise: - "Jabil will take over Compaq's Ayr, Scotland plant that has 240 employees. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed." | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 19:33 | Bobby - what a crock of sh*t! Jabil are laying off 200 people in Livingstone allegedly, out of a total employee base of 177,000 across the world. I have just rechecked their website and they confirm that they operate from 90 sites across the world in 23 countries so moving their manufacturing elsewhere isn't a major issue, despite you seeming to think it is. Perhaps you should sell up and invest in a FTSE 100 company just in case - although don't chose RBS or any other banks as most of them are moving premises and closing down locations at the moment and you clearly don't like that. | cheek212
23/3/2017 19:19 | I added those because I really thought he should have done!! Well no he put my name there in actual fact. Also just for record he bashed that email response up within a few minutes of me contacting him so, he certainly didn't have to think about that response and it wasn't a normal general response. Very reassuring i thought. | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 19:15 | 'I hope this assuages your concerns XXXxX' did he really end the email with kisses?? | ianous
23/3/2017 19:14 | Read the email Bobby. It has always been intention to produce globally I specifically asked that question to Scott during one of the investor conferences and his answer was if it was bought in Africa it could well be made in Africa or india or wherever. It does not impact the company as has been confirmed by Joe. | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 19:06 | Our product in containers. I see containers moving around all the time, as do you, folks. , | alchemy
23/3/2017 19:05 | Thing is it doesn't matter where they are produced as long as it's the lowest cost, we have import quite a bit of stuff anyhow so if we get cheaper labour or reduced shipping it will be no impact just savings. Scott said orders from Africa made in Africa although they might keep stack production locally, they still have an outlet in Scotland to do that. | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 19:02 | Well done Dogrunner - good post. Hopefully that will keep the doom-mongers at bay until the next mini disaster. | cheek212
23/3/2017 18:57 | Response from Joe from redT:- Thanks for getting in touch. To be clear, this announcement does not materially affect the redT business, fulfilment of any orders or any other element of our corporate strategy. As has been communicated previously, redT holds a global manufacturing service agreement with Jabil, which is not tied to any one specific location. As such, any closure of the Livingston office is immaterial and we will continue to work with Jabil to optimise the lowest cost manufacture of the different components of our machines, utilising Jabil’s 90+ manufacturing plants across the world. With regards to our own Livingston office, we will continue its expansion in line with our business plan. We have built a strong engineering and operations team since its opening back in 2015 and the downturn of the Scottish oil and gas sector has provided us with access to a highly skilled pool of labour with which to expand. I hope this assuages your concerns XXXxX. All the best, Joe | dogrunner11
23/3/2017 18:36 | Must admit its a bit disconcerting, a jabil insider joins the Co. and a couple of weeks later jabil are closing down livingstone. Hope I am wrong and looking at it too pessimistically but red are a substantial part of my sipp. | darkdogs
23/3/2017 18:18 | You always need to move the product from A to B unless it is built on-site. As I said in my previous post, we are currently shipping batteries from Livingstone to South Africa and that is a long way. Africa has a lot of sun, so much in fact that it is likely to be a much, much bigger market than tiny little Scotland will ever be with a bit of excess wind. So would it not be better to manufacture in the African continent?Redt clearly has a potential global market, not just U.K. based so personally I have no concern about whether Jabil Livingstone continues to be a manufacturing plant or not. Also, what's to say that the Ayr site isn't picking up all of the manufacturing currently undertaken at Livingstone? As I said earlier, Ayr doesn't even appear on Jabil's list of sites so clearly they must have more locations then even their website knows about!!! | cheek212
23/3/2017 17:58 | Cheek212:> my take and reason for possible concern is that Scotland has a very high potential for wind energy and 10 Aug 2016 - For the first time on record, wind turbines have generated more electricity than was used in the whole of Scotland on a single day and So given over supply of wind generated power there is an apparent urgent need to balance supply to the grid which will require massive energy storeage - REDT appeared to me to offer the most effective solution and given the size/weight of the units gut feel suggests more econonic to build in Scotland - but I may be wong !! | pugugly
23/3/2017 17:43 | I don't see this as any news that affects Redt. The news report says that they are stopping manufacturing in Livingstone, not closing the site. It also says it does not affect their Ayr site, one that doesn't even appear on their list of Jabil sites, and maybe is is a manufacturing outlet. Jabil have other 100 sites across the world, so why does the battery need to be made at Livingstone anyway - it can be made anywhere and shipped, just like it is at present I.e Livingstone to South Africa for example. Few manufacturing companies build in the U.K, so I don't see why this news is bad for Redt. - if it's built in China or India or wherever else Jabil happen to manufacture, then it further improves their margin due to potentially lower manufacturing costs. Just my opinion, and I know no more than the rest of you. | cheek212
23/3/2017 17:37 | eithin:> Thanks for posting link. bookwormrobert. Agreed a very worrying development -- Jabil must (or should be) aware of likely forward requirements from REDT. The message received (by me) is that demand from REDT is likely to be less than forecast - unless there ahs been a significant reduction from other (unknown) customers. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm. | pugugly
23/3/2017 17:07 | No. It's not good news at all imho. | iglenn
23/3/2017 16:26 | Jabil have other sites - not least one in Ayr - but this makes me seriously concerned. It's hardly a vote of confidence. | bookwormrobert |
