Mainly buying today despite the stand-off over Ukraine. Join the conversation this hour on LBC, FM in London and on national DAB.

Ukraine President telling Biden to calm down, war not imminent.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10452249/Ukrainian-President-Volodymyr-Zelensky-told-Biden-tone-messaging-invasion.html?login#comments

It won't calm down anytime soon, imo. Putin is a Soviet revisionist, to put it in Chinese terms. LOL

It is cheap but could turn a lot lower if Russia does invade. As soon as the situation calms down I will be straight back in.

It's irrationally cheap, given Russia's energy assets.

I'd say cheap territory. The stand-off over Ukraine is irrelevant and more to do with Putin's ego than economics.

Nordstream 2, or anything that bolsters Russia's leverage, is a massive mistake.

As was Germany winding down its nukes.

As for RAVP - it's ether approaching very cheap territory, or it isn't :)

Biden got to sell his gas to Europe, not wonder he does not want Nordstream 2.

Perhaps germany should follow popular german opinion, stop being the usa's puppet and get nordstream 2 open.

He is when he supplies 20% of Germany's power, agreed.

Trouble is, that gives him no reason not to do something stupid.

Also sitting on $600bn of reserves, and Russian oil profitable at a little over $40/bbl.

So no reason to panic as this is only sabre rattling. I see a recovery once the stand-off passes. Putin living in the USSR past... we ain't going back. Period.

I agree the divi is no cause for worry. But the difference between NATO and Putin is that Putin is a dictator and does whatever suits him whereas NATO is a grouping of democratic states, all with electorates to whom they are accountable. Putin therefore is in a relatively strong position.

The only broker I found who allowed it in the end was Barclays but they are expensive and rubbish e.g. you have to nominate if you want to take Divi or scrip before the scrip pricing is announced....!

I hold my RAVP in several nominee accts with AJ Bell and wanted to change my election from cash divi to scrip but, disappointedly, they say they don't do scrip, neither as change nor new purchase. I want to stay with nominee accts but anyone else with that broker restriction?

It has been reported that if sanctions are imposed, Russia will not be removed from the swift inter-bank payment system. Lots to panic about at present, but payment of dividends to RAVP holders is not a worry.

The risk here is sanctions which might prevent rubble rents finding their way to sterling dividend payments!

I think the ordinarys are worthless at this stage even without the current Russia Ukraine kerfuffle. There's too many out there and they just go lower and lower on little volume. They either need to a reverse split or buybacks

JRS final results out today , new divi policy : 60p forecast ( vs 35p ) payable at 15p per quarter ..... so close to a 10% yield . Rothschild said buy on the sound of gunfire ...... Wait and watch .

NATO is needed to protect Eastern European sovereign countries from Russian aggression, that should be more than obvious from Putin's recent actions. Ukraine, of course, isn't in NATO - nor was/is it likely to be.

Putin claims Russia is "threatened" by NATO states on its doorstep. Threatened? Does he think NATO's poised to invade Russia? It's laughable.

He hankers after a return to the Soviet Union. Trouble is, none of the formerly annexed Iron Curtain countries feel the same. That's not to deny large Russian populations in eg Estonia, Latvia.

Not through NATO aggression, that's for sure and you are deranged if you think so.
