"Shares in private client fund manager Rathbone Brothers (RAT.L) slumped 50p to 740p yesterday, on rumours that analysts will have to lower full-year profit forecasts."

(from Stocker on the fbb, quoting The Times)

Well; there's a surprise (not).

edit: Now found The Times piece - headed 'Rumour Of The Day' It goes on to say:

"..... Numis Securities says Rathbone’s quarterly billing pattern and focus on discretionary funds means the level of the stock market on June 30 is crucial to earnings. Profits fell in 2001 for the first time in 17 years."

All MMs were showing tradeable prices up till 4:26pm, but only INGC showing at 4:28pm (735-755). Then zilch for 8 minutes and 740-740 thereafter.

I had a s/bet expiring today (short of course). What counts as closing price?

Ed: Bet settled at 740p OK.

Tanked big time from 3.00 this pm. wins driving it down. It closed in bwdtn and was untradeable for the last 10 mins of the day.

It has broken 750 support.

Some rns today, but I couldn't see anything that bad!

Perhaps rumours of another fund manager leaving under a cloud? That would make 3...

I'm out at 790 cos it was obvious that mms were going to bounce it. Looking to reshort when appropriate.

alexx

If you're still in - its risen into overhead resistance in the 810 area. It hit it and came off straight away. For it to be a long it needs to clear 830, which would mean taking out resistance and a declining trendline. At the mo its failed to get anywhere near jan highs of 900 and remains in a downtrend. the short position would be overwhelming only on a break of 750. So to sum up the chart suggests thast the current rise is probably over with 830 the tops. All imo and you're the one with the money!

Would that be what caused the large volume on 29th?
It doesn't seem to have had much effect on the price.
The 800 level seems to be where support is and 830 where
recent resistance is.

Has anyone any views on this at the moment? I know that RAT have received a large amount of funds/clients from a major private client company that has recently moved its operations to Geneva, so we could see a decent set of results next time round, but will this be offset by economic conditions?
any views welcome

Some Telegraph readers bougt today by the look of it, but no price change. Higher volume.
Strange behaviour. Opens low and closes at yesterdays price.
Yesterday it opened high and closed at the same price.
The price is above the 50 ma and the 200 ma, just.
Needs to close above 825 I would think, if it's going to go anywhere.
