In my experience, the availability of large amounts of cash tends to convince managments that they are genius investors….

I don't think there is a pension?

They said a decision by the end of the year and they've been very straight so far...

You can only hope that the present awful market conditions will make them drop any idea about wasting money on acquisitions.

Are they really going to leave this until next week?

Surely, yes.

They must be aware of the political risk affecting sterling.

I hope the payment has been sat in the euro denominated bank account!

Indeed, I suppose the delay on the award has rather played into their hands (allowing the wafer rebate to be negotiated at a lower price). They said it will all be sorted by the end of the year, so not sure what the hold up is now?

By the way, I haven't bothered following the price of polysilicon and wafers for some time, given that PVCS no longer have a relevant business.

I took a look today and was shocked by how much further both polysilicon and wafer prices have fallen. At these prices, even the most competitive producers of polysilicon and wafers will be losing money hand over fist.

I've had a Google and couldn't find anything, the name implies special situations though, so hopefully they can apply some pressure...

You are right, zcaprd7, that it makes no sense to do anything other than return cash to shareholders (including themselves).

But, sadly, my experience of such situations is that managments are often seduced by a mis-placed belief in their own brilliance, and do the wrong thing and destroy value.

let's hope this management shows integrity and respect for minority shareholders.

If they do, the current share price is a steal, of course!

What makes you say that? They've played it with a pretty straight bat, and hold equity themselves... If they want to do fancy things, they can join the mbo of the German outfit for £1.

Yes. That one's out of the way.

The next obstacle is the risk that management waste our cash on an acquistion.

Ah, yes, I've liquidated one or two of the British companies I hold.

The majority of my holdings are in foreign companies that aren't affected directly by Brexit. Or even benefit from weak pound.

Indeed, I am holding this instead of cash, been liquidating my other holdings...

Even better then, if May doesn't get her deal through and the pound collapses.

PVCS as the hedge to other holdings....
