His hatred towards TOR and family, he seems to be happy for something to go wrong with the June drill.

Steel...please go across to iii and convince Sobeit that the IceMax is on "sea trial" and not "under repair", and explain to him this is one of the best modern rig in the world.

Blustry,It depends who you are listening to. PVR Geo O'Sullivan think it is a World class find. Some others say it is compartmentalised. Needs a drill or 2 more to prove it up and we impatiently await confirmation of a partner to shoulder at least 30% of drill costs.

isef - AHTS stands for Anchor Handling Tug Supply, so quite possible, especially in remote areas. More often than not, in the North Sea, they are used mainly for chain work and towing.

PSV stands for Platform Supply Vessel and these basically just do cargo runs, although, as you say, all carry water cannon for fire fighting when it's a case of all hands to the pumps.

steel: If your right I stand corrected. Though I seem to recall a jackup rig being towed to its site off the north west shelf WA a couple of years ago and the same tug then acting as a supply/ standby vessel alternating with another vessel out of Karratha. Then, shortly thereafter, the same company moved a semi sub by tow from south of Barrow Island to the Roebuck basin and the tug then acted as a supply vessel for that drill. That rig was moved twice more locally while it did three drills by the same support vessels although when it was released a different towing vessel did come down from Singapore to take it back up there. I must admit I wasn't glued to the Marine Traffic website over the period however.

Hi there, I was reading, conor keane in Irish Examiner 2012 .re Barryroe, commercial oil find ,20,000 barrels a day , 3 mile from pipeline, and much more all positive stuff, why may i ask is it still in the ground..? or at least some attempt being made to exploit it? was this all hype.

Zh, Not too late to bring another party onboard. Could happen any day now. They would probably want at least 30%.

isef - PSVs have different stern config (sort of like a pick-up truck tail-gate), to AHTSs so unsuitable for towing rigs.

GD: Tug or supply vessel, in this game of offshore drilling they're the same thing. They all have a supply function, sea rescue and some degree of fire fighting capability too. They tow rigs (function not required with a drill ship unless it conks out or some other emergency besets it requiring a tow)) act as supply, safety and fire fighter as/ when/if necessary.

Your understanding of tug and mine may differ however. Perhaps I could have been more succinct and written supply vessel rather than tug in my previous post. The essence of what I wrote however, remains unchanged as the type of tugs that would be required for a deep sea drill are all multi functional vessels. Cheers.

Herm if another company wants onboard the good ship Icemax, they are leaving it a little late aren't they?

Herm,

The supply vessel according to Stena will be down to CAIRM/PVR costs unfortunately.

isef,

According to Stena there will be no tugs involved during the drilling of Druid. The only tugs involved would be supply vessels. If in doubt contact them yourself for confirmation.

Whilst the Dunquin rig was on station, also dynamically positioned, one of the four supply vessels remained on station acting as standby/safety/guard, rotating with the others as required for refueling.

Should think that while drilling the IceMax would require a tug to act as a safety standby vessel but I don't know that for certain. May also need tug service for removal of drilling tailings etc and resupply.

rog - afaik it can maintain station without assistance, though will decouple the drill string at times if heave conditions get too extreme.

("FEL") 2/14, which lies in c. 2,250 metre water depth

Presumably the ship will use dynamic positioning rather than anchors at this depth? In that case, does it need tugs at all?

herm either ur a natuarlly positive guy or u possibly have an alterior motive. I sincerely hope its the former. Not that it matters for me at this stage as I've been seduced by the possibilities. And of course the fact that a 70m placing happened
