Doubt it - new variants more easily and rapidly found by nucleic acid sequencing. While proteomics may help with all manner of virus theraputics, I doubt identification of new variants is among them.

I suspect someone/thing significant buying in - just can't see traders, no matter how good the news (and we don't know the details yet) buying at the top of a 40% daily rise given the co's current reputation. And buying still happening as we speak. As always, no point speculating about the reasons - I'll just be happy with today's gains and hope they are the first of many (although I do with they happen mostly after new money goes in the ISA in a few days... ;-(

I hear GE are running their slide rule over this but are waiting for 1st April for final confirmation. Apparently there's also some suspicion over that choice of date.

Their file marked 'PRM - Agreed bid after profitability' seems to have been mislaid after languishing at the back of a dusty filing cabinet for many years but they are on to it.

Meanwhile traders in the US have been woken up early and are poised at their keyboards and phones, ready for 2:30pm our time.
