Oldtown,

It's nowhere near 5.5 miles, and I DID mention the park route, please see my post above!

---------------------

"And the route to Sandbanks would be veen shorter if you employed the direct and more scenic route through Poole Park, and Whitecliff Road"!

---------------------

The Civic centre lights are the same number of sets if you approach from Parkstone Road, or down Fernside Road from the Shah, you face one set either way, but at the Shah you face an extra set and have to wait for the right turn filter, which can involve a fair wait when it's busy!

I normally use the park route because I prefer the scenery, rather than because it's shorter, if i'm heading towards Lilliput or Sandbanks.

Andy you seem to take offence that Poole town has no beach,to say that sanbanks is handy for tourists to Poole Town is nonesense, only a moron would think that it is.
I dont understand your taxi story at all? it dont make any sense to me! but at least it proves one thing. It proves that you need a taxi ride from Poole town to the nearest beach or if you dont mind a 5.75 mile walk.
I dont think that shore road is Sandbanks and to say that the beach starts at the junction on heaven road is utter claptrap.
Please give directions to sterte beach andy i will take a picture of it for us all to see when i take the dog down there later?
P.s is the straight long road to sanbanks you talk about the one that has 6 sets of traffic lights at the civic centre andy lol?
The real quick way to sanbanks is via Poole park son , any local knows that.

Oldtown,

I wonder if you came to Poole and caught a taxi?

"where to sir?"

"Sanbanks Beach please cabbie, and go the direct route"

"shall I take the 'direct route' Via longfleet Road sir, the one that takes in the extra set of traffic lights, has long queues for the right turn filter, is half a mile longer, and avoids the straight direct main road that all the Andy's use as a rat run, or the scenic park route"?

"that's the one" you replied!

"and please leave the meter running during all this extra distance and time so that you don't lose out!"

"Oh i WILL Sir, you can be sure of that" replied the friendly cabbie!

Seems silly to me to use a waypoint that is not a beach when the whole point about the debate is how far it is from Poole to the nearest beach lol?
I dont want to seem rude but Haven road is Lilleput and as for Rockly park beach, now your getting stupid.
Who on earth would want to take the kids aside Turlin moor singlemum'R'us council estate for a 100 yard bit of muck and rocks at the back end of a trailer park?
Andy i can beat you on sillyness, what about the beach on Holesbay? thats about 1/2 mile from your town centre of the George lol.
The major road from poole that all the tourists are sentdown is the A350 but thats ok, they can pull off the road and relax on the beach at Holesbay.

oldtown,

Well this sentence says more about you than I ever could!

"not a road junction leading to a mental institution"

Sandbanks most certainly DOES start at Haven Road, I go there a lot, my friend windsurfs there most days!

To asnwer your other points, the George is the centre of Poole, not the Quay, that's why the shopping centre, railway station, and bus stations are there :-)

Parksone road is THE MAJOR ROAD from Poole, not a rat run, but maybe only a local or someone familiar with the area would know that? I wouldn't expect you to know that!

Poole HAS beaches nearer than 5 miles, Rockley for example:-) (Even closer from the quay!)

Or are you going to choose a route via Bournemouth to extend the distance, like the last time?

I have lived here all my life, don't try and teach granny to suck eggs me old fruit!

andy

Why the George? most people who visit Poole go to the Quay , ie Lush!
Andy the point is that Poole really has no beach without at least a 5 mile drive in a car.
I really dont think most tourists to Poole are going to know the rat-run shortcutts?
And we are talking about beach's so lets use the beach as the waypoint not a road junction leading to a mental institution.

Sandbanks starts at Haven Road, check the distance to the ferry!

oldtown,

Well I would have started at The George, so it's 5, it certainly isn't 8!

Edit,

And you route goes via Longfleet Road, rather than along Parkstone Road, which is shorter!

And Sandbanks beach starts at Haven Road, (see your route) which is nearly half a mile nearer than the ferry, which is the other end!

I live here!

oldtown,

Sandbanks is nowhere near 8 miles from Poole!

By road, about 3 miles, much less as the crow flies.

And the gay, fat, and balding men are at Studland, across the chain link ferry, on the Swanage side of the bay, not on Sandbanks beach where it would not be allowed.

I still say a beach in the quay area would look odd, and as the water conatains pollutants from the ships that still work there, so would not be too pleasant to swim in IMO.

When is the Inspectors report due?
My memory suggest around July.
Any views on likely decision timings for PIV -or what their tactics are likely to be over the year?
Good to see that all the recent buyers are staying on board ( Cicurel etc) must be some confidence in likely returns for their stakes - Cicurel bought in the 4-5p range if my memory is OK - cant see him being satisfied with less than 7-9p
Views welcomed - both informed AND speculative!

if they can have a beach in paris they can have a beach area in poole!

Basil,

Poole indeed DOES have some of the BEST beaches in the UK, Sandbanks for example, and that is why I can't see why they would want to construct one in the old town area where it would look (IMHO) totally out of character for that area.

I take your point though, anything Paris can do, so can we!

And better!

I see the price has now dropped below 3p. The volume appears low. I would guess that P O´Reilly has stopped buying and the price is now drifting on small sells. It suits me, I was thinking of doulbling up this year. I´m still confident of a positive outcome for the public enquiry for the bridge and for a sale of our land for development.

I wonder why the price drop.Could it be good news is coming soon and it's the MM trying to get hold of stock before lift off? Any thoughts?

Apparantly he´´s an Irish lawyer who made a load of money out of the Dublin property boom and is now over here trying to make some more. Apart from PIV he has a large stake in Sherwood Group (SHW) and I think Safeland.

All second hand and from memory.

fhmktg,,

I live near the site, and cannot see how they can have a "beach area", as the land is a few meters above the waterlevel to prevent flooding!

With global warming I cannot see how they can reduce the height of the land without incurring the danger of flooding at high tide.

I think the bridge is as near to definate as possible to predict, the council are in favour, and the old lifting bridge in need of repair, and was built for an era of little traffic, rather than 40 ton lorries and non stop traffic.

The plan is for the old lifting bridge to remain, but for pedestrians only, and will connect the old quay area to the new one being proposed here.
