Rio Tinto completed the sale of Alcan today for $349 mill bringing their asset sale total to $8.3 bill over the last 18 months.
time to move on Extract methinks.

Mark,
Yes, I was wrong.
I should have said it was 4p in March/April.
All the best.

Err... roomb, one year ago the share price was under 2.35p.

More to the point, I wouldn't hold this stock simply on the expectation of a reduction in the discount, though a proposed TSX listing might help that...

I am holding it for the gain in value resulting from any one of the following:

- Bid for Extract or prospective gains as Extract moves towards production
- Bid for Caledon, or turn-around of Caledon operations
- Approval of GCM's Phulbari (GCM's value is underpinned by other assets anyway, I am led to believe)
- Progress in Mongolia

Quite a lot of options there, any one of which could add to the value and I don't see a lot of downside to any those - bar Caledon which could suffer a short-term selloff if the bid is called off - but that, in turn, could create an opportunity for Polo.

As long as Polo continues to grow its NAV, I'm happy to hold for the long term and, as can be seen above, there are plenty of opportunities for such growth.

Cheers,

Mark

Lot of financial institutions have Dec 1st year ends. Some fund has been reshuffling for their year end i suspect. With a short 1% of the equity traded today hopefully this selling pressure has now ended. We'll know tomorrow.

Completely valid of course, how else do you value Polo but i've heard these component valuation observations before and it often sounds like a plea for market sanity .Yet,for every Racal(in the 1990s) stupidly undervalued relative to its interest in Vodaphone, there's a Cambrian Mining sure to disappoint.Given the quality of management here though, hopefully the discount to assets will be quickly narrowed.

barryog-I agree, but unfortunately the share price is 4p, which is what it was about a year ago. Still, I remain hopeful that longer term things will improve.

you have to be right - the value of their investment in Extract alone is now more than their total capitalisation at 4p per share.

me too, i am very surprised with the fall since the last Director buys at 5p - you just can't fathom the vagueries of the stock market at times.
however, unlike most small caps, this is a share where you can at least quantify the fairly precise value of what the Co. is worth and thats without any potential price hikes for take over opportunities and development of the Mongolian assets.

thats it for me as they've bored me large. ive been in from 4p, watched them go down to 2p, then up to 5p. these could well fall through 3p. good luck all holders.

I topped up my holding after the directors purchase at 5p so I'm nursing a very small loss on my average. I'm sorely tempted to top up again but I'm just scratching my head at the continuing falls.

Medium term I still believe this share is a no-brainer and that LTHs will see significant gains but I don't have the confidence to catch what appears to be falling knifes at the moment.

The undiluted value of Polo's investments (excluding Mongolia) remains at close to 7p/share (6.85p by my reckoning). Fully diluted, I make it 6.3p, again excluding Mongolia.

Switched out of Kalahari into PRL couple of weeks back.Odd one this. The broker's note has done nothing to steady the ship.Have averaged once. This is a real enigma and it's curbed my appetite to buy more since i simply have no real understanding of what's moving the share price.Maybe it's sheer boredom that there's no news that's triggering sales.
Mr Dattels has seen the share price fall 20% since his purchases on the 21st October.

Thereagain having just looked at the KAH/EML/PRL charts they all move very closely as you'd expect.

..........Impact is a rapid up-and-coming junior explorer with a hold on key uranium tenements in east Botswana, Africa. The company has managed to secure the largest uranium portfolio in Botswana, and tenements are directly north and south of A-Cap Resources (ACB) large Letlhakane Project – which is in the process of a bankable feasibility study. The world class potential of Impact's 27,000sq km exploration portfolio is best highlighted by some significant shareholder backing from major resource investment companies – Polo Resources (20%) and China Growth Minerals (12.68%). Polo has essentially provided funding ($3m) for the drill program that is expected to commence in the 4th quarter 2009. So far 400km of targets have been identified but no drilling has been conducted. 5 high priority targets are currently undergoing soil geochemistry tests. The drilling program (anticipated to begin by the end of 2009) is expected to be a key share price driver should favourable results emerge.

azalea - possibly. Might have to look at crystallising the 315% paper profit I am currently showing on MARL. Although for me, above PRL as investments are GKP and CHL as they 'potentially' offer greater upside in the near term.

IF you believe there is a corporate end game for Extract from which PRL will ultimately benefit, then the length of time waited for "any action" could be considered academic. Also, IF the share price drifts lower whilst you wait, it could provide you with a further buying opportunity.

how long will we have to wait for any action and will the share price drift lower while we wait?

Looking at the EXT sp, now would look like a good time for a move, however these things are nearly always long drawn out processes, actions involving mining companies are measured in months and years. For example look at CDN, how long have the takeover rumours and news been going on there?
