Interesting Downing picking up stock here!

The reason I am saying this is they had a stake in Elektron and sold their stake. I was in conversation with one of Downing's fund managers prior to their sale and I was told Downing were reluctant to get involved with another manufacturer.

So there must be compelling reasons why Downing have taken a stake in Plastic Capital.

Seems like heed the ball stuff to sell a property for £1.3 million and then commit to rent that same property back for £1.3 million rent over 10 years.

Hey ho its an instant much stronger balance sheet now as they say. (cough)

Took a stake last week, have followed PLA for a number of years, and awaited my opportunity. Quite like the new acquisition, its got good synergies with one of the companies other operations.

Latest update was for results to be "broadly in line", so could/should make 11-12 p eps for a P/E of 8 at an share price of 96p, along with a yield of 3.5%. Chatted to them at Peterborough and liked the progress. Not too happy with the "growth by acquisition" strategy but it is working. Down from 140p it seemed very cheap so bought at this level.

Plastics Capital will have a stand and also be presenting at the two day investor workshops next month in Peterborough. We are focussing many of the workshops on long term investing and building your portfolios so will be looking at individual companies as well.

This is the direct link to the two day programme...

There must be at least half the workshops there to interest any investor and we have some very well known hosts and speakers plus 24 company presentations as a bonus. They will be released in about ten days time and as mentioned PLA will be one of them

Why not come and join us ?

Today's announcement good news and given comments in the annual report about the frustrations that that the bearings division had in turning leads into orders must be heartening for company.
That having been said can understand share price reaction ie increase in sales of £0.5m not a game changer given annual sales in the £32m area and will take a good year to get to this level.
They referred in their annual statement to other projects which were taking a long time to close and will be interesting to see if we get a RNS on them.

No idea why the price continues to be so strong especially given the decent but not earth shattering interims.
Lightened up a bit today.

Results a bit of a curate's egg; hose mandrels and hydraulic hose connections have done very well but the other product lines have rather treaded water over the last 3 semesters.
Cash flow on the whole good.
They say that the group will trade in line with expectations for the rest of the year. Not sure what expectations are:according to Digital Look revenue is £33.4m which they will make this year and pretax profit is £4m which will be a stretch as pretax pre exceptional/Fx was just £1m in first half.
A bit nervous on China; for a small UK company to have the largest market share in what is a small market does raise questions.
Note share price increase. Sold too early-in the 90's and do not have all that many left and will stay with what I have.

I had a quick look at the report - seems OK - more steady, slow progress.

Having difficulty forming a view as to whether this is a good or bad deal; reading the announcement PLA seem to have a good reading of the business and management of Shengli but could well be a serious use of seniormanagement time. If the deal does not pan out will be inconvenient but not fatal for PLA.
Where I am having a good deal of difficulty with is the high level of costs in the fund raising ie £2.7m gross..£2.1m net for a deal that was not underwritten but being placed in a buoyant market.
Others have views on this

I am a bit confused: trading statement says broadly in line with market expectations which usually means a slight shortfall and then they say the business is doing great..I then thought that market expectations had increased in the recent past so went to digital look; a month ago the one broker following it did increase their eps forecast for this current FY from 12.3 to 12.4p with revenue forecast of £33m being unchanged for the last three months.
Perhaps the market did not think this 12.3/4 eps would be achieved given that eps for the three years 11/13 hovered between 10 and 10.2 and is now more confident.
I lightened up too early in April but will keep what I have at the moment.

It is hardly pleasant to go round trashing others , someone said do not do unto others. I do not mean to persist as he does, but thought his co investors ought to know what kind of slippery customer you have

There were ten of us at the lunch and one of the others may do a report as I have six more events and presentations to arrange. I was very happy with the presentation and I sensed the directors are very optimistic for the year ahead.

Any feedback from yesterday's lunch? I could not get back into town in time so missed it.

In particular did you get any hint of urgency to get the stalled (stalling)company back into forward motion?

Muted share price reaction today justified as for me the shares are correctly priced. Sold down quite a bit in the highs of April and may well go back if it goes sub 80 again.
Need to be realistic that 2nd half was not good with pretax proft at £0.2m-the lowest 6 month pbt since I started tracking in mid 2009 and last year's s revenue the lowest for last 3 years. In the second half saved by their tax credit and we have no way of knowing if this is repeatable.
Note what they say about acquisitions; they do have some borrowing capacity.
I cannot make the lunch tomorrow which I guess is full; if I had been there I would have focused on their management capacity; clearly they need to adapt to the way they do business; this was very apparent in their commentary on Bell; the following caught my attention quote All these changes have a common theme - the need for world class engineering capability at BNL, particularly as it applies to injection moulded bearing design and manufacture. Unquote.
To repeat what I have said before-my way of looking at this company is having to run hard to stand stilli e the changing markets and the need to get good new business given that Europe is in the doldrums.. They have had good new business success
