05/1/2008 09:51 | Frankfurt Xetra-Dax (-1.26%) closed firmly below breakeven on Friday as Wall Street traded in the red after non-farm payrolls came in lower than expected. Key for the banking sector, Merrill Lynch may take an additional write-down of as much as US$10 billion, CNBC said. Among the outperformers, there was renewed talk of Dow Chemical being interested in LINDE (+4.38%). The deadline for bidding for a stake in Slovenia's largest telco, Telekom Slovenije, was extended until 14 January. DZ Bank reckons the group would fit in well with DEUTSCHE TELEKOM's (+0.67%) Eastern European portfolio. UNITED INTERNET (-1.67%) was reportedly thinking of buying all or part of Pipex, a UK business broadband service with a market cap of £215 million. | troys
05/1/2008 08:50 | Sorry, just seen the earlier posts - Old news, although the BBC article posted previously states that WIMAX is not really used in Europe, but I use it in Spain where it is one of only a few options if you need bb in a rural area. | mattaltass
05/1/2008 08:38 | Not sure of the relevance to PXC, but just been watching the 'Click' program on BBC-News 24, and they had good things to say about WIMAX - Its spread of use in countries such as Mauritius, and how it is quicker, and cheaper that alternatives that use fixed, or 3G mobile technology. | mattaltass
04/1/2008 21:14 | No way will it be 12p.Be positive 18p :o))))))))))))) | spights
04/1/2008 20:30 | oops !! - fast finger disease, like the day I pressed the buy button on these | tonybaloni
04/1/2008 20:30 | It will be my pooi-est crock for years !!! average 12p bummer | tonybaloni
04/1/2008 18:32 | Not seen anything from the broadband sale. So if this goes at 9p it will be a big crook of poo for me. | markieparkie
04/1/2008 16:16 | Be interesting if they split up the business and hosting divs. United Internet owns Fasthosts so you'd expect them to want the hosting div. Thus (Scottish Telecom as was) bought out Demon a while back (and trashed the company by the way) so might only want the Business Division. Can PXC get more by breaking up than selling the lot to Oakley? At any event, should all be over in a month or two... | veryoldbob
04/1/2008 16:15 | Edit - too much reverse makes you repeat yourself! | napoleon 14th
04/1/2008 16:08 | The fact that none of the big boys are interested makes a bidding war unlikely - so 7p could be right on the nose! | veryoldbob
04/1/2008 16:07 | I'd hope for a bit more. You could payout 9p to shareholders on asset sales, & re-use it as a vehicle for summat else, so get more £££s for your kicks! | napoleon 14th
04/1/2008 15:37 | So, 7p for sell off and 2p for Pipex wireless remaining? | zimbi

03/1/2008 18:44 | So after the sale of the BB side and now all this. What is the forecast return we would get if it was all sold off? | markieparkie
03/1/2008 17:32 | Hi Guys...........Happy New Year. I am off to Houston next week. | spights
03/1/2008 17:31 | article on ft.com Pipex up on wireless bid vibe By Emily Rotberg and Neil Hume Published: January 3 2008 02:00 | Last updated: January 3 2008 02:00 Pipex , the internet and telecommunications company, was in focus late yesterday as bid rumours swirled. Following the £210m sale of its broadband and voice business to Tiscali in September, Pipex put its web hosting and business service division up for sale and said it would demerge its fledgling wireless business. The talk in the market yesterday was that the two divisions could fetch up to £130m and that proceeds would be returned to shareholders. One interested bidder is Oakley Capital Private Equity, in which Peter Dubens, the founder and chairman of Pipex, is a partner. Pipex closed 0.7 per cent higher at 8.53p. -------------------- | spights

03/1/2008 13:27 | Sorry if the link has been already posted. Not got time to read through last few days of action. WIMAX in at number 4. Pipex not mentioned, but they were the ones who put in the infrastructure at Milton Keynes. | markieparkie
03/1/2008 10:18 | Dumped the rest of my PXC earlier on todays rise for a hefty loss. This is nothing more than an orchestrated rumour no doubt so some big boys can dump into. Goodbye Pipex you big let down :( | stevi1111
03/1/2008 10:09 | process taking a lot longer than i expected, thought would be out pre xmas, looks like the ubs team needed some sun so i am now hoping for full details within two weeks,[gives them time to get back to their desks and earn a crust] | bubface
03/1/2008 09:58 | no matter what, they can have all my shares (300k) @ 12p.. even though i'll make a loss.. | dutch2
03/1/2008 09:50 | B2: The frequencies in that first auction aren't really suited for WiMAX and PXC (via Freedom4) already hold three 28 GHz licenses anyway so don't need more. Independent report for OFCOM here: The really useful frequencies are up for grabs in the second auction - that suits WiMAX perfectly and is the same band as that used for the big US roll-outs. I'm still unsure of WiMAX in the UK. Maybe if a big player snaps up the right frequency we might see something but look at the facts: Freedom4 is offering businesses FWA 4 Mbs and home users 1 Mbs in limited areas. Via HSUPA, Vodaphone is already offering a fully mobile 7.2 Mbps service and will do so nationally. Unless WiMAX gets it's data rates higher and, in the case of Freedom4, mobile I can't see it competing unless in specialised areas such as Milton Keynes and local government contracts. That said, I agree with steviIIII - this might be a good opportunity to sell if the hype produces a spike. That guess of mine of 12p including the Freedom4 stake is looking a bit generous, but you never know... | veryoldbob
03/1/2008 09:40 | bubface - how long do you this process will take to finalise ? | dutch2 |
