Living in Denmark, I notice the Wimax frequency 3.4-3.8ghz (is that the one that might be coming to auction in the UK soon?) was recently auctioned for 117m kroner (about £10.5m).

I know it's only a rough calculation, but with a population of 5m, you could multiply that by 12 to get the potential UK licence value of £125m.

Looks like the old days of 3G big bids are well behind us!

I think you will find that the variation to the licence is agreed in principle....and now it's all about haggling over the cost; at a recent Intel presentation, reference was made to the planning for the launch of this service with F4 as soon as Intel start embedding the chips in the device platforms (around Q3 2008).

As for the 'power' issues, I'm told that they are almost a complete irrelevance, in so far as all it might do is affect the drop-off at the transmission edge and is almost an irrelevance commercially or technically (Ericson will answer these questions if you ask them!). On both issues I guess we will know soon enough..As for Mr.D not wanting Freedom4, you appear to have assumed that it is his decision to make in regard to ownership - knowing ICAP as I do, I wouldn't be surprised that this view is entirely wrong.

As always, I guess we will find out in due course.
